IMHO It would work better with them above/below each other, still with red and green as you have done but a vertical slider

I know it's only been made just for a bit of fun but I thought I would pitch in with some concerns and opinions.

I found the original version difficult to understand until I figured out what it was. That's not a good thing for a UI element.
In the second posting, number 1 looks more like a puzzle than a control, while number 2 is a little better but still confusing.
It's not usually good mixing the shape/form and the text for a UI element.
One reason is that it can be confusing (as already mentioned).
Another reason is that the interface may not work when the language changes.
And what would happen if you decided to change the switch to use a square, or an "X", or whatever?
This sort of thing might look good on a book cover - E.g. "ON/OFF - The Switched Generation" - but it's not really practical as a UI element. A nice little experiment though.

If yes then which?

I meant 2, but perhaps with a (slightly ? ) hollow circle more like an 'O' (but that do I know, I haven't a creative bone in my body)
