SilverBird
Hi guys, I’m testing things out in designer on the iPad, trying things I do in other apps. One thing has me stumped, I might be blind, but I hope you can help. What I’m trying to do is to draw a solid shape with stroke & fill, then I want to use an Eraser to draw Freeform lines through this shape creating new shapes. But I can’t find an eraser! I saw a tutorial where the eraser creates a mask on a vector layer but that’s not what I want to do. Was that in IPad Aff. Photo perhaps? thanks in advance! SilverBird
Just to clarify, what I want to end up with is new whales that can individually be edited or moved in vector. Thanks
nateunnito
ok i figured it out. At the top left, there are three modes. vector, pixel and export click the button that looks like little dots. Thats the Pixel Persona. Theres an eraser three tools down on the left. From there, group your objects together and use the eraser tool Change the hardness for cleaner vector eraser. From the layers panel, it looks like AD applies a layer mask. Does that help?
R C-R
There is no vector eraser in either Affinity app. To cut apart one vector shape into several that can be edited individually, you will need to use Geometry operations. So for example: 1. Use the Pencil Tool to draw a freeform line through the shape you want to cut into pieces. I suggest setting its stroke width to a very small value, like 0.001 pt. (The Stroke Studio will show this as "0 pt" but that is just because it rounds values.) 2. From the Edit menu, select "Expand Stroke." (This is necessary because geometry operations ignore stroke thickness.) 3. Make sure the now expanded shape you just drew is above the shape you want to cut up in the Layers Studio & select both of them. 4. From the Edit menu select "Subtract." You now should have a single "Curves" layer (note the plural) selected in the Layers Studio. 5. From the Edit menu select "Divide" to convert the "Curves" layer into individual "Curve" layers you can move & edit individually. There is a knife tool on the desktop Designer roadmap that should simplify this greatly, but there is no ETA for when it will be added to the desktop app or if or when it will be added to the iPad one. Yes that’s what I ended up doing R C-R. Not intuitive enough for what I want, but did let me at least do a little bit. Ah well, can’t win them all, it’s an awesome app! thanks
