Importing text?

Hi,

Is it possible to import text with "File > Place..." instead with Copy/Paste?

I don't see a File -> Paste. Did you mean File -> Place, perhaps?

If so, then I think the answer is no, because from a quick experiment Place looks only for image files.

Sorry, my mistake. I've just corrected it.

Yes, I saw that only image files are on the list, but I thought that I missed something.

If there isn't such a feature, I think they will add it in Designer and Photo when Publisher comes out.

On the Text menu,  you have the option to Insert 'Text From File'  which can import text from a .rtf and .txt file.

It's a no for Word documents.  Just .txt files and .rtf files.

Might be best to make a separate Feature Request for Word files to be added to the import list.

IMO importing Word files is a MUST for a DTP app that has an aspiration to be the best. I don't think that RF format supports Word's formats 100%.

Docx could be handled, though there might be some incompatibilities (much as there are with PSD files). Open- and LibreOffice can work with those files, for example.

What happens if you open the RTF file in WordPad?

Hah. Never mind, Petar.

AD cannot handle a simple RTF from Word or WordPad where (at least Cyrillic is concerned).

If you open that Word document or the RTF in LibreOffice and resave, the Cyrillic comes in just fine.

Thanks Mike. I resaved the RTF file with TextMaker from SoftMaker Office package and it is OK.

Does someone from Affinity staff read this to see what they have to do with such a problems?

As for staff reading this post...maybe, probably, maybe not.

I would suggest posting in the bug forum and include a small sample rtf file as exported from Word.
