Hi,

does anyone know the best way to create a text swash, which goes under text?

An Affinity Photo or designer tutorial would be a great benefit.

Thank you all Iin advance.

Swashes are usually attached to text characters, either above or below. Is that what you want, or are you actually thinking of flourishes? :/

If you want swashes like the ones in soft drink logos, Loki Cola seems an obvious choice.

Note: Other soft drink logo fonts are available!

Yes, I have seen fonts which contain these, but I would like to start making my own which I can add to my existin* fonts.

The problem is I am not sure where to start?

I suggest playing with shape tools such as the Tear and the Crescent. For example, you can create a Nike swash quite easily by duplicating a tear shape, rotating the duplicate slightly, overlapping it with the original and then subtracting.

DesignMeister,
You can also use stroke's Pressure Profiles to create them (depending on the style you are looking for) or at least use them as a base to start after expanding the stroke to curves. Adding them to an existing or new font requires specialised software (font editors).

The problem with those Meb, is that if you need to convert the stroke to curves (example: before adding different forms), you get strange results, and you need to correct some angular shapes that were curves before convertion.

@DesignMeister there is another way to overcome that thing.
One of my many techincs is to learn from what other Designers do on PS or Ai them apply the same thing but using variant/different way of working things out with affinity.
it has helped me to shorten my workflow and even master new method and ... integrate them in my creative work.
i would say: if it works with PS or Ai then it will work with Affinity.

Also, do not hesitate to jump from Adesigner to APhoto, i personally take advantage of that functionality.
Staying on Vector/Pixel only environement is (to me) the hold way of processing; with Affinity New ways of Creativity are Yours!

I have decided to try and draw a swoosh by hand. If I use the pen tool, is there some kind of tool which will smoohen wobbly hand drawn curves, like there is in Illustratot?

Thanks for all the input :)

If you use the Pen Tool, the curve will not be wobbly unless you create a lot more nodes than is necessary for a smooth curve.

An easy way to draw a smooth curve is to draw a straight line with the Pen Tool and then drag on the line with the Node Tool. In AD on iPad, choose the Pen Tool, tap at the start and end positions of the straight line segment, tap on the ‘—Edit—‘ icon on the Context toolbar and then drag on the line to reshape it to a curve.

Thanks for making the assets. I will also try to make some, once I have worked out how to do. It :)

Much appreciated.
