Richard S.
Hi everyone, does anyone know of any photo or designer tutorials which show how to make gradient halftone dots - the type you see in old comics etc? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Quote High-End Photographic Prints
Staff Dan C Posted July 15, 2018 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2018 Hi DesignMeister! We have an official tutorial on our halftone filter in Affinity Photo; I've also found a third party Affinity Designer tutorial which is informative And a further post on our forums showing ways of creating dot matrix patterns in Affinity Photo without using the filter layer: Roger C 1 Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. Richard S.
Thank you for those 2 tutorials, I had already watched he first one, but hadn’t seen the second one. However, I don’t think they are quite what I was looking for (or maybe I’m just Uber tired and need a break). I am trying to create a gradient of dots - not from a photo, just a blank canvas and somehow create gradient halftone dots. I wanted to post a link to a Pixelmator video which shows exactly what I want to achieve, but not sure if that was allowed here, so a YouTube search for “Create comic cartoon halftone effects in pixelmator” will show exactly what I need. The first 3.5 minutes shows it. Thanks. Quote High-End Photographic Prints
Staff Dan C Posted July 15, 2018 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2018 No problem at all! 14 minutes ago, DesignMeister said: (or maybe I’m just Uber tired and need a break) I know the feeling I've watched the video and I believe the easiest way to recreate this is to create a gradient filled shape in Photo and then apply a Halftone filter to it. Although there aren't as many settings in Affinity than Pixelmator for the filter, I've created the below which is what I believe you're looking for: MEB, Richard S. and Roger C 3 Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. Richard S.
Exactly what I was referring to. So basically create a shape and fill with a gradient, and then run he halftone filter on it. Shame there aren’t as many options, but it does basically what I need. Thank you very much for all your help - it’s much appreciated.
