Create INSTANCES/SYMBOLS in affinifty to easily make changes to all duplicates? (ala FLASH)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I want to do the following in affinity:

In Adobe Flash (my vector tool of choice for many ears) when one creates a symbol (basically grouping objects together and creating an instance out of it) , this instance is given a name.

Say for example I designed a Car , a yellow lambo, in vector and put all of that in a symbol, and named it "CAR A"

I can copy and paste duplicates of this "CAR A" as many as I want to create a picture of 100 yellow lambos

The beauty of this Symbols thing of Flash is that, if I decide to make all the lambos GREEN, i simply edit one of the CAR A instances, and any changes inside that instance is reflected on all its copies.. and now I have a picture of many green lambos and i changed all its colors from yellow to green in a matter of seconds.

I can't stress enough how useful this tool is for my work and I really really hoped Affinity had this feature. But i can't seem to find it.

Affinity Designer DOES have this feature, its called Symbols. Go to View > Studio > Symbols to show the Symbols Panel.

Welcome to the forums MojoTojo!
I'd recommend watching our tutorial video on Symbols if you need further info :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
