BenG
Hi I'm trying to auto distribute a group of squares along a 3d looking axis. Is there a way to do this at all? Or what is the best way to do this?..... If I do this by eye/hand it might take a while Cheers! Ben
firstdefence
What are you trying to achieve? I would have thought Power Duplicate would have been adequate and using the Transform Panel to get the required position and spacing. The problems start when you resize the shape as well as move its position, Affinity Designer increases the spacing as well as the size, I see the increasing of the spacing as a fault. For shapes that are at 45º you could try to rotate them 45º and distribute horizontally or vertically, or if you know the rotational degree, rotate it so that you can distribute from a horizontal or vertical plane to get an even spacing on shapes that have been resized, in reality this doesn't always give the expected result so again I think this is broken. BenG
Hay thanks for the reply ! There is no rotation involved just I need the small-large squares to evenly distribute from from the center outwards... almost there but they are not perfectly distributed..... So would I use the power duplicate? which I'm not sure where or what it is? Cheers

I hate comparing Affinity to Illustrator but Illustrator is a very good example of what Affinity need to be aiming higher than and that would be no mean feat. Illustrator has the Blend tool with the options of smooth colour, steps and distance, this makes this sort of work very easy, not only that but colouration, rotation and shape variation are all accommodated as well as real time adjustments of each shape, colour, rotation and position. Affinity needs to up its game. Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... As a long-standing DrawPlus user, this is probably the tool that I miss most, since unlike some other missing tools there are no easy workarounds. (We didn’t get blends on a path, or control over the position and attributes profiles, until two versions before the last one, but at least we could specify the number of steps and the start/end colour and opacity.) BenG
Thanks Guys, I use Affinity Designer by default now simply because I do better work with it.....these additions would definitely put them above the rest! However sometimes it's a case o f using XY and doing things the old way with co-ordinates and by hand...... Adobe software imho is a bit laggy, slow and can't handle the design files I use with Affinity. We all improve along with the software we use, so it's just one of those things..
