how do you organize graphical assets?

currently i'm using illustrator to organize all my assets, which works great since there's a tagging system. Unfortunately affinity designer's asset panel isn't really functional for anything reaching over 50 items and it seems there's nothing on the roadmap to improve that. But affinity is much faster and overall a better product, so I'd prefer to use this app if I can figure out a good way to organize each individual image where I can easily drag n drop them into an affinity project. Any advice? I'm currently thinking of just using out of the box mac tagging and folders for each image, each image being it's own affinity file. Has anyone tried that?

I organize my Affinity Designer assets into various categories & subcategories. So for example I have a not very cleverly named "My Assets," an "Experimental Assets," and various other categories for different things, each with one or more subcategories as appropriate, like "Cartoon Face Parts," "Transportation Symbols," & so on. It isn't as flexible as a tagging system that allows an asset to have more than one tag, but it works well enough for some things.

For things that don't fit well into a simple category & subcategory taxonomy, & for things that have very large file sizes or seem likely to be useful for a limited time before I will want to delete them, I also use Mac OS tags. I also use them for files that I am likely to use in other apps besides the Affinity ones.

It is basically an ad hoc, kludgy way to organize assets I have developed haphazardly over the last 3 or 4 years & not something I would recommend to anyone else.
