firstdefence
Run Disk Utility you can get this quickly by Pressing (⌘+Space) and type "Disk" Spotlight should show Disk Utility.app so just press Return. In the Disk Utility Window, click on the First Aid Icon and we'll see if this helps you, if not we can try something else. In the Disk Utility Window, click on the First Aid Icon and we'll see if this helps you, if not we can try something else. Unfortunately, Disk Utility's First Aid does not touch permissions settings on anything in a user's home folder, so this probably won't help (although it can't hurt to try it). If you want to try resetting your home folder permissions, follow the instructions in this Apple support document. This is better than trying to change (for example) the desktop's permissions manually in the Get Info window because it will reset the more obscure permissions that changes to ACL's might have created. EDIT: I probably should mention that both steps in the Apple reset procedure can take a looong time to complete so be patient & don't try to abort either one because you think it might be hung. It took about 10 minutes start to finish, but my user folder is only around 90 GB so it probably would take much longer for larger & more complex home folders.
