Seekay Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Help! I need to grow a shape from an outline. In affinity photo I can go to 'select' then 'grow/shrink' and add 3-5 pixels round the edge but then it doesn't seem to 'save' this new outline?? Used to use photoshop, grow shape then fill grown shape and cut to create a template - can anyone help? Quote
Staff Gabe Posted June 20, 2018 Staff Posted June 20, 2018 Hi @Seekay, Welcome to the forums. You cannot "grow" a shape by going to Select > grow or shink. This only works for selections, not for shapes. What is it that you want to achieve exactly? Thanks, Gabe. Quote
Seekay Posted June 20, 2018 Author Posted June 20, 2018 Hi we cut metal shapes so I have the outline that we cut and I need to make that slightly bigger to upload onto the site as a template to use. It needs to be slightly bigger to allow for a 'bleed' Quote
Seekay Posted June 20, 2018 Author Posted June 20, 2018 i.e. I have an "apple'' shape and need to make it larger - so they're bespoke shapes or drawings that I need to make larger Quote
Staff Gabe Posted June 20, 2018 Staff Posted June 20, 2018 The easiest way to do it is to duplicate the shape, make the fill transparent, and increase its size by holding down ctrl + shift + alt - to keep the proportions and to scale from the centre. If you attach the file it would be a lot easier to advise. Quote
Alfred Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 If you apply a wide stroke to a shape and use the ‘Expand Stroke’ command, you’ll get a new shape (a ‘Curves’ object) which mimics the original stroke. Apply the ‘Divide’ Geometry operation to split the new object into large and small versions of the original shape. carl123 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 This works on the Desktop version not sure if it's the same/available on an iPad Select the shape then Select > Outline Select Outside for the "Alignment" setting in the dialogue box that appears and slide the Radius slider to the amount of pixels you want Then fill or paint in the colour for the outline (you may need to add a Raster layer to fill/paint onto) Alfred 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. I hadn’t noticed that this thread is about Affinity Photo on iPad.
