Hey guys,

Can somebody please tell me how we can "Warp" text or transform text in Affinity photo, like in Photoshop?

It's pretty basic feature and it should be there somewhere but I am struggling to find it, can someone please help?

Thanks

One of the ways is if you rasterise your text, you can use the mesh warp in the filters studio, simple example shown here. If you can upload an example of the effect you require others might also be able to help. This is example on iPad but it’s similar on PC and MAC.

Hi folks

Thank you for your answers, and please take my apologies for text spelling mistakes I was referring to "Warp Text Tool" feature like in this video

I have found some creative ways to solve my problem but it would be so much helpful if I could find some similar feature in Affinity photo.

Thanks

Don't worry about the spelling too much VladTam we all do it. :)

Have a play with the liquify persona too. You can save the mesh warping for later use.

I think the closest you can get to that effect in Affinity Photo & keep the text editable is with one or more live filter layers, something like in warp-o-rama.afphoto. As I did there, you can stack multiple instances of live filters like twirl & drag on the canvas to change how each one affects the text.

You probably would not use that many live filters on one text object in a real workflow. I just did that to show how they can be combined (& how much on a relatively low powered Mac like mine having them all visible can slow everything down).

Ok guys, thanks on answers, that "live filters" is something that I will defiantly try.

For now, best solution is "Perspective tool" but it is far from ideal, so I really do not understand why so basic feature is not added in this software, it's really mind bugling to me!

In Affinity Photo, go to Filters/Distort/Shear

Use the box that appears on the bottom right corner to manipulate the text.

That's yet another destructive process, tho, which will rasterize your text. Hence you can't edit it anymore. We're still waiting for a true vector warp function.

Well, we shall wait for this feature a little bit more time, but I wonder why Adobe included it into Photoshop rather than Illustrator or InDesign?

I think it's needed everywhere. I used to work in InDesign like 10 years ago last time and it had the most effect and tools just like Photoshop - wonderful tool. So - why not - especially if the vendor is still the same. :)

AFAIK Illustrator can already do all kind of common distortions (just text to shapes shown here, aka envelope distortions).

Well performing mesh based distortions in a non-destructive process, for example in case of text and then keeping the text still editable afterwards, isn't that easy as it might sound first. Since in order to distort text algorithmically arbitrary, you need to have it either in an bitmap/raster representation (pixels, for bitmap based distortions), or even better in whole vector points (curves) for vector distortion. In both cases you have to convert the previously editable text into the respective bitmap, or vector representation form, in order to manipulate the positioning of certain of it's coordinate points. And thus you will lose its previous text state editability. - To overcome with that one probably have to store both, the initial editable text component and it's converted pixel/vector based representation together as a sort of distortion-unit.

However, there are also other factors which do play an importing role here, like setting up a correct surrounding bounding box with an amount of interactive manipulation handles around and the like.

Here's one quick playing around sample, via some custom vector distortion manipulation code. Note that it's interpreted and not compiled code, compiled code would be executed ~factor 10x faster then here. It shows how some plain text which is converted into SVG vector paths (...thus not editable as text anymore afterwards) can be manipulated by some vector based mesh distortion algorithms. - Note further that the whole code, especially for the UI tool to interactively manipulation and also the interactive handling of the mesh bounding box, are still far away from being perfect or foolprove, so it still has weaknesses ...
