The  flood fill tool is behaving erratically.

Sometimes I am able  to see the add and subtract functions  the tolerance and the contiguous features and other times juat the tolerance and contiguous features and when this occurs  it  will not allow me to separate the selection I have made from the main image.

Please help.

Hi Justin b and Welcome to the Forums,

Flood fill tool doesn't have those options you mention, the Selection tools do.  So you can add to the selection or subtract from it.  The Flood Fill only has the Tolerance and Contiguous options, as shown in your screenshot.

I was just following a tutorial and clicked on the same tool as the one in the tutorial.

I could not understand why I was not given the same capabilities.

Actually, I think the tool you are talking about (or want) is called the

select.jpg.6317786359fafbae07e5443d2fc29dad.jpgFlood Select Tool

It is for making pixel selections and that will give you the following options

You can use that to " to separate the selection I have made from the main image."

The

is for filling areas with a colour (or replacing areas with a new colour) and only gives these options
