ronnyb
There seems to be an inconsistency in the UI. The dark gray is used for all panels, but all pop-ups go to default MacOS light gray? Looks really weird... 2021 16” Macbook Pro w/ M1 Max 10c cpu /24c gpu, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, macOS Sequoia 15.1 2018 11" iPad Pro w/ A12X cpu/gpu, 256 GB, iPadOS 18.
Staff TonyB Posted February 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 26, 2015 We try and match the OS X menu system as that is obviously defined by the OS. It would look very weird if the popup menus looked different than the app menu.
ronnyb
Hmm, it just makes the UI feel un-cohesive... How about using OS X's Dark Menubar and Dock setting (available via System Preferences > General prefpane) for the UI since it's mostly Dark, and the default, bright UI pop-up menus could be a Pref setting? 2021 16” Macbook Pro w/ M1 Max 10c cpu /24c gpu, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, macOS Sequoia 15.1 2018 11" iPad Pro w/ A12X cpu/gpu, 256 GB, iPadOS 18.
Staff TonyB Posted February 26, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 26, 2015 I'm not aware of many dark apps on the Mac that use non-standard menus, they all tend to use the light version. The only apps that do have dark menus tend to not look Mac like at all.
ade
I dont understand what is being said here, the UI is superb to my eye, dark grey with some panels using a slightly lighter coloured grey. My popups come through as the same two colours as the main UI. Am i missing something here ? The only light greys i have come across are on the UI of this forum. ronnyb
Tony, It just feels odd to have such a strong/dark UI for everything and then leaving the pop-ups in the light style, specially when Apple provides a Dark UI mode... The Dark UI mode is something that Apple began using when it released Aperture, Motion, the FCP suite etc, it's their pro-UI, and was recently promoted into a systemwide General preference setting since Mavericks or Yosemite, I can't remember where it debuted... In any case, I'm all for consistency. If you're showing me a dark UI, then commit to it. Otherwise it feels odd that pop-up menus are light and the rest is dark. The change in contrast is jarring to the eyes, so pick one or the other... or better yet, let the user pick one or the other :) UPDATE: Basically, the apps should honor the UI mode I select in System Preferences > General I'm not aware of many dark apps on the Mac that use non-standard menus, they all tend to use the light version. frankgwirtz
Just looked at the program for the first time today and my only criticism so far is that the user interface is pretty much unusable. I know for the past several years, beginning with Apple's Aperture. that the black on black on black UI has been considered more cool than one that is readable, but at least you could offer a brightness adjustment on *all* interface elements so those who care about productivity and neutral color perception could use the program without squinting. Thanks. A_B_C
Pres
Aperture colors its popup menus to match its light-grey theme, so there's a bit of precedent for having menus that match. ronnyb 1 Running Affinity suite on macOS
ronnyb
That's right @Pres, and if you are in full screen mode, you get the real dark UI AND pop-up menus... Aperture and Motion have some of the best UIs, perfect blend of simplicity and customizability... ronnyb
Tony, if you go to full screen mode in Aperture, you'll get the Dark UI... if you right click on an image, you will see the dark menus...
