Tiff format exported by Affinity Photo is merged layers in photoshop

Recommended Posts

I had a issue when exporting TIFF file with multiple layers in Affinity Photo.

After exporting, the tiff file has multiple layers in Affinity Photo, but only one layer in photoshop at the same one (attached photos).

My customer complained me about issue because they edited tiff file with photoshop.

There were somethings wrong from me?

Why don't you just export as a PSD file, the PSD format will honour the layers, and the Layer Names.

As far as I can work out Affinity doesn't support Layered TIFF files yet.

Hi leminhthanh,
As explained in the thread i linked above: TIFF does allow for companies to register additional tags for their own use. Adobe registered two private TIFF tags that enable them to embed layer data in a TIFF.  These tags are an extension and are not part of the central TIFF standard.  These tags are used to embed PSD layer data into a TIFF, in addition to the standard flattened image.

We have done the same for TIFF's generated by Affinity apps - we registered/added a few tags that allow us embed Affinity layer/data info on TIFF files, however only our apps are able to read them. Third party apps are able to open those TIFF files as usual (as flattened images) but are NOT able to access Affinity specific tags/data.

After many explaining, I tried to open photoshop's tiff with Affinity Photo and It was kept mutiple layers. That means Affinity Photo support to open Layered TIFF from photoshop. That's a good point of Affinity Photo.

But this incompatibility is a inconvenient for AP's users, people want to replace Photoshop with Affinity Photo. From now on, I won’t be able to send tiff file to my customer any more.

Anyway thanks  mac_heibu and MEB.
