Hello!

I am new to Affinity Designer, and trying to get into graphic design/logo design. Recently i have tried out some of AD's tools and features, but i'm struggeling with something. I want to split/seperate a text layer into 2 pieces, but i can't seem to manage this. I have read that i have to make the text layer into curves, and use the ''node tool'' to point where to split between, but this does not work for text, only shape. I would appreciate it someone have a solution to this! :)

How do you want to split it. Like this

split.jpg.bfb0fb289991f787dc154bf964ee4719.jpg

or do you mean diagonally ?

split2.jpg.670cc69ef03d8d24e576cef9c6182e49.jpg

split3.jpg.1ee8b0990a3a3419cfa8bacc9a67bca2.jpg

or something else ?

Edit. I have included an .afdesign file in my second post to show you an easy way. There is no need to convert the text to curves, so it remain editable.

The method shown by @reglicois brilliant for complex designs.

Hi Simen Pedersen,

Convert text into curves, ungroup.
Draw a very thin cutting line, "Expand stroke".
Select the set (text and cut line), "Divide".
If necessary, move parts of the letters and delete the remaining parts of the cutting line.

In any case, once cut and moved, the text is no longer editable.

To keep it editable (so in a single layer), I would use a gradient.

Wrong orientation! That one’s the flag of Luxembourg. smartass.gif

(I think the blue should actually be lighter, but I’m allowing for a bit of artistic licence.)

I'm not going to quibble and they are my neighbours, I grew up 10 minutes from Luxembourg, so it's a bit like family!

You could always keep the text as text and create a few shapes, group them and make the group a child layer of the text so the group becomes a texture, then tweak to your hearts content and still have editable text.

Got to be worth a try. The parachute packers apparently give a full refund if the parachute doesn't open.

They must be very good, because nobody has ever returned to claim a refund 9_9

Thank you! i guess this is a good way around the problem for now, until they add that cut tool they have promised.
