Kris Bad Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Hi everyone! Preface: I'm a natural born newbie, never have enough free time to learn the way I'd like... So, I got this photo (both raw and jpg) of lot of tower cranes. Photo is poorly aligned, was shot while walking. Now, I want to crop and straighten but once done, the effect on the cranes (therefore straight lines with sky on background is all in "steps". Without caring too much about the pic itself and the required corrections, I've uploaded the two versions, original and straightened. If you zoom in on the straightened one (on the crane jibs, best visible with sky in background) you'll see better what I mean. Don't even know the correct word in English, but it's like "all made up of lines". Any idea if this is normal and if there's a workaround to straighten the image (based on the building) without that ugly effect? Thanks a lot! Kris Quote
Dan C Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Hi Kris Bad, Welcome to the forums! Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to here, perhaps it's a translation issue so accept my apologies for that. As far as I can see, there is no difference around the crane jibs in the original image over the straightened one. I can see there is some chromatic aberration in both which could be cleaned up, but it is more likely I am missing what you are seeing! Could you possibly upload another image of the straightened copy with the 'steps' or 'lines' circled/outlined? Many thanks Quote
John Rostron Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I would guess that the uploaded imaage has been scaled down. Could you please crop the straightened image to an interesting bit that you can upload at 100%? John Dan C 1 Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). firstdefence Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Very pixelated, so unless you have a better image I'd walk away from this one. If you have a better version once cropped you could apply some perspective Grid to straighten the side stuff like the lamppost on the right and the part of a crane on the left... firstdefence Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 I wonder if Kris Bad is talking about the vertical banding that occurs in some circumstances when an iPhone takes a panorama, I think there was a post about this a week or two ago.
