After using Macs for some 25yrs I though I knew how to use copy and paste! I created a grouped object in Designer. I wanted to place a copy of it a set distance from it. When I use copy & paste Affinity just plonks it on top of the original not where the mouse curser is. Please help.

thanks,

John

Hi @johndenison ,

Welcome to the forum.

When you paste an object, it will be pasted/placed in the exact same place where you copied it from, not where the cursor is. So, pasting it on top of the original image is a correct and expected behaviour. You will have to move it using the move tool.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Move tool, and move the copy of group.
Or set new position in transform panel.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, John. :)

As @GabrielM and @Pšenda have indicated, what you have described is just how copy and paste is designed to work. There is currently no ‘Paste at Cursor’ option in the Affinity apps, so you have to move the copy (or the original!) as a separate operation.

If you duplicate the original and move the duplicate, any further immediate duplicates will adopt the same spacing.

After much searching

If I'm wrong, it's defaulted - it's one of the basic panels.
So you must have turned it off.

Even easier way to do it. Select the group. Hold down the command key, and drag. A duplicate will automatically be made. Plus, by making the duplicate that way, one can use the power duplicate routine to repeat the duplication and motion and/or resizing. If snapping is on, one can often position the repeats quite accurately, particularly if there is a grid on.
