Hello.

My name is Elaine. I have newish macbook pro (2012) I used to enjoy making cards on my Do Crafts Digital Designer programme, but this alas, no longer works. I've spent quite a while looking for an alternative that works on a mac.

(As I don't have windows I can't use Craft Arist, or Hallmark cards )

I happened across Affinity Designer last week and downloaded the free trial. Unfortunately I am unable to understand even the basic tutorials. I would very much like to buy this programme and get to grips with it, so are there any really basic, basic tutorials out there for people like me or am I in way over my head.

Thanks for reading

My name is Eric and I do a fair amount of design work as a communications specialist. I'm excited to add Affinity Photo and Designer to my MacBook Air and look forward to additions to the Affinity suite.

Thank you for an amazing set of tools! I look forward to learning and sharing more in these forums.

I'm Jack Lewis and I'm a retired (75) technical illustrator. I cut my computer graphics teeth with Serif's DrawPlus and I got some pretty good results with it but it was on a PC and I hated Windows!

I'm sure you have all heard me belly-aching and going on about the lack of certain features useful to technical illustrators.

About two years ago I invested in a mini Mac and went through the usual learning curve (actually I still am). That meant no more using DrawPlus so I bought Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Photoshop I could use OK and still do but I after DrawPlus I just couldn't get on with Illustrator. I then got hold of a PC laptop and installed DrawPlus on it. The next day I got an email from Serif offering me a free download of something new called Affinity! What lousy timing - on my part that is but bang on for Serif! I am now going to invest in the latest iMac and the rest is now history.

I suppose I really should introduce myself- except I'm not a great one for doing so! I'm Tom, and I'm from Birmingham in the West Midlands, England and fairly near Nottingham, the home of Serif? "The Serif of Nottingham" perhaps? Or has that been said a billion times before already? I'll get my coat...

I've been a photographer for the best part of 44 years. I'm a bit of a purist in that I've always preferred to work almost entirely within the camera and getting shots in one take. But recently I've needed to use composites more and more, and I was fed up with how Adobe was going (Fed up with Apple now since they've ditched Aperture). So hence being quite excited about Affinity Photo, and why I'm here. :)

The 'Serif of Nottingham' made me LOL! I wish I'd thought of it!

Love the 'Serif of Nottingham' or can I add 'Serif of Dottingham'

I've come back on board to say 'cheeroih for now'.

As I wrote earlier, I was looking for an alternative to the Do Crafts programme for cardmaking.

I tried the trial version of Affinity Designer but I guess I'm a bit short in brain cells so didn't purchase the package.

After much umming and aahhing we decided to put boot camp on my macbook and try windows 7

(it's okay, I anesthetized my macbook first LOL )

So now I've got windows 7 on my macbook it means I can use serif's Craft Artist.

I've not used Craft Artist before but the reviews look good and the forum is great. The CD is in the post and arriving some time soon. I have bought quite a few digi kits and they'll download as soon as I get 'Craft Artist' in place.

I may be back in the future when I get better at understanding my computer.

Just wanted to say Thank you to all the guys in support who I emailed with lots of questions.

The customer service at serif is second to none !

Hi,

I am Oikku from Finland. Was really blown out when by accident found Affinity Photo and downloaded the trial - it was so much more I expected. Now I am waiting for your solution to replace my inDesign - then I had everything I actually need. Well, fonts with Adobe CC is a very nice addition...

Hi - enjoying learning from people on here and seeing the apps develop.

I make books, mostly with kids drawings so mostly use photoshop and indesign and a bit of illustrator too. Am now at the crossroads of deciding whether to go with creative suite or move over to something new and from what I've seen I'm keen to see if I can use the Affinity suite instead albeit I suspect it's at least a few months away yet.

I'm keen to see Publisher and how it will compare with indesign. AP and AD are very promising but just missing a few bits before I can properly make the switch (live paint in AD and puppet warp in AP).

Of course the other thing of interest now is the iPad pro and that might change my workflow completely!...

Really impressed so far and it's nice to be involved with something at the earlyish stage.

Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm a man of wealth and... no, sorry, I am definitely not a man of wealth but I hope I have some taste:) Anyways; I am an artist, editorial cartoonist and illustrator and a jack of all trades as long as they are creative. I work for a Finnish daily in the Swedish language, born in Norway with Finnish/Sami/Romani/Carelian roots, so no Viking blood in my veins and that is probably why I have moved to Portugal where I live in a safe distant from any beach as I swim like a rock, and also in safe distance from any expat-communtity (shuddering by the thought of it) and therefore I do speak Portuguese as well.
OK, so where was I? Well, I have been using Photoshop since I got my first Mac in 1998, but although I have done some vector-based work I never got my head wrapped around it, more like tangled up into it, but then I stumbled across Affinity Designer and lo and behold! there was I, after a mere hours, throwing together vectorbased illustrations like it was nothing to it!  That speaks a firmament for the intuitiveness of this programme, indeed! I love it and it's brilliant and it was the most well spent money I ever spent <---rather clumsily constructed sentence...
Looking forward to see where it is going and waiting for updates :)

Hey guys !

I'm just a guy who loves doing art in my freetime. Currently I haven't bought or tried any affinity products (because I don't have a mac) but the videos tell me more than enough to see that it is an awesome suite.

I'm currently looking forward to the iPad (Pro) Version of Affinity Designer as I'm currently using Autodesk Graphic on the iPad and there are just too many things it can't do compared to Designer.

When that version comes out -- you will see me here more often :)

Just out of interest what is Autodesk Graphic like for creating technical illustrations and technical drawings?

Hello,

I just want to say hi and hope to enjoy the forum.

Been dabbling with digital stuff for a good few years, but still not very good at it!

Can someone recommend an ideal setting for the preference settings in Affinity Photography?

Can I use it on more than one Mac?

See some of my efforts:- www.flickr.com/photos/bohpix

Hi

Robert King here

http://itsaboutnature.smugmug.com

Thanks for this software!!!  And keep improving it!  I know little about this stuff but I need it and so far…I am impressed.

Question:  How can I convert my files to RAW and JPEG as I save them?  i read something about this…something about Personna.  I do not even know what that is.  I looked in the upper left corner and I do see preferences but I do not see how to make a setting to save my files as RAWS and JPEGS.

Just trying out the trial for now.  Started last night.  Happy to be here and spreading the word!!

Hello. I'm brand new to Affinity and decided to download and join the forum. I am getting my Applied Art & Design - Multimedia degree and was using (and nose bleeding continuously from) Adobe CC Photoshop and Illustrator. I just couldn't justify the cost anymore and was resigned to work with my old CS4 Design Premium programs until I learned about the Affinity products. I am very much interested in Publisher and will look forward to when the Beta comes out next year.

I am mostly focused on video production but have recently been getting into Graphic Design through my classes at school. This next semester I will finish up my degree and graduate in May. I look forward to seeing how I can transfer the knowledge I have learned in Photoshop/Illustrator/In Design and use it in Affinity.

You can check out more about my journey at www.RebeccaWithey.com

Blessings,

Hi,

my name is Romano Pfefferkorn. I'm from Ingolstadt, Germany and work with Automotive HMI Designs.

I'm mostly working with Photoshop CC. However, Affinity Photo is much faster and thus makes it easier to click through huge PSDs :)

I can't wait to see the PSD support improved so it could fully replace Photoshop. It seems like multiple masks on one layer (vector + pixel mask) are handled differently, and it doesn't support layer comps yet.

Personally, I use affinity Photo to make Textures and UI for my private Game Projects.

Hello,

My name is Rebecca and I am a closet creative who has come out of the closet in the last few years. I am currently working towards my AA degree in Multimedia at Sierra College in California. My love for media started in High School while working for my father's advertising agency. It continued as I worked in Corporate America and then moved over into Radio/Broadcasting. I took my husbands diagnosis with cancer and turned it into a short film that was an official selection of the 2013 Life Film Festival in Hollywood, CA. I was looking for an Adobe alternative as it was becoming to costly to keep up with the monthly software costs. I am looking forward to working more within the Affinity programs as I learn more about multimedia through school.

You can check out my work at www.RebeccaWithey.com

Thank you!

Rebecca

Hello

My name is Ian and I am sick to death of waiting for Illustrator to spin its wheels. So I searched for an alternative; and what an alternative I found!

Designer is quick and slick, and it anchors itself to existing Apple technologies. Now I am particularly excited about Publisher and look forward to trying it out.

Computer programmer by occupation, in a prior life I studied classical composition at the Guildhall school in London, l'm a lover of good typography and recently discovered a talent for designing websites. ;-)

Hi there,

natural history museum scientist doing a range of imaging from scanning electron microscopy, to light microscopy, macrophotography, dSLR, and even 4x5" view camera. Have used PS v3 - CS5.5 extended currently on Mac Pro. Imaging mainly for print publication, including >1000 page book designs with >1000 figures (QXP). Need rock-solid platform for large master files (100 MB - 1 GB) with excellent color management and proofing options. Efficient tool use is also critical: switching brushes, switching from adding to subtracting selections, changing units (much better in AP than PS), moving layers, scaling individual or multiple layers, forced orthogonal lines. Have to look into customized keyboard commands.

Looking forward to macro editor in AP, then I can mothball PS for good. Other functions such as heavy z-stacking (>100 x 300 MB 16 bit tif files) can be done with other apps (HeliconFocus, Zerene); PS CS5 stacking was worse than useless. Thus far very impressed with AP, and I just scratched the surface. Drawing speed on 4K NEC UHD 322 display is excellent. The absence of a license key is pure joy! Opens Canon 5DsR CR2 files no problem [no longer supported on any PS CS version].

AffinityPhoto | Designer | Publisher V1&2, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Zeiss ZenBlue, ZereneStacker, Heliconfocus, Aurora HDR, DxO Optics Pro, DataGraph, Wacom tablet
