Hi I'm Wolfgang. I live in Austria.

I'm no graphic professional, I use graphic programs only for private purposes. I started with Corel Draw 1 on an 386SX so roundabout 25 years ago and upgraded it regularely. When changing to Mac 10 years ago I looked for a vector graphic program for OS X. Adobe one's are too expensive for occasional use. I tried several programs. The last one I tried and used for a longer time was Intaglio, but I missed a lot of useful things. When i read about Affinity Designer in c't Mac & i this week I instantly download it in App store and begun to explore it.

Guys of serif: Great Job. It's easy to use and has a lott of possibilities and features! Fully professional and that for only 49€.  A good source to get knowledge of the how to and features is Affinity Review #1. Thanks for that .

And now I'm going to create some illustrations.

Hi, I am Alessandro and I live in Italy.

I'm an amateur photographer and I've casually discovered Affinity Photo Beta. At first look the software is great, but I just started and still have a lot to learn !

I'd like to learn techniques to retouch scans of slides (dust and scratch removal).

Tnx in advance for all !

P.S. - I hope Affinity Photo will be localized in italian language...  :)

Hi, I'm Pete Dubaj a photographer. I'm looking with interest the new beta Affinity Photo. I use Apple Aperture as my primary file management & photo editing software. I was very disappointed when Apple announced they are ending support for Aperture. For me it was & is the best for my workflow. I especially like the editing brushes which I think are still the best. I've been using Affinity Photo for the past week and although I understand it is in beta and will not fret over obvious missing beta features and beta quirks. I would really like to see support for the mac mighty mouse or trackpad in being able to adjust the size of the brushes. Common now, to utilize an age old adobe keystroke seems a bit dated not to mention time consuming. I'm hoping this will be featured in the final release. I'm having to learn some of the nomenclature of AP so it's been somewhat slow in understanding all the features and functions. I will say I like the interface but would  most likely week it if it was mine to redo. The brushes as somewhat troublesome to me in that I can't see the hardness. I think it should be like Aperture.

Well I just realized this was supposed to be an intro not a critique so I'll end it here but look forward to seeing AP developed into a final version.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi! My name is Linda, and I am very new to Affinity products. I have been an avid creative cloud user - mostly Photoshop and Illustrator. But I am eager to test your app because CC is too expensive for me. I am so happy to have a viable option!

I used to be a web designer/developer but I'm now pursuing my lifelong dream of being a maker. I sandblast and engrave recycled glass. I have a Wacom and want to be able to create my original designs digitally for output to stencils (for the sandblasting).

Hope that wasn't TMI!

I am just super grateful for an affordable Mac alternative!

Hello everyone.

I'm just a retired old geezer with almost zero artistic skills but a decades old interest in technical drawing. I used to use Freehand with a Powermac running OS 8 for that (back when it was a Macromedia product). I have looked for years for an affordable vector drawing app that runs on modern Macs. For a while I tried making do with Freehand MX running in "Rosetta" emulation mode on an Intel Mac but when Apple dropped support for Rosetta with the release of OS 10.7 Lion, that became even more impractical than it already had become.

To be honest about it, I had never heard of Serif until I read about Affinity Designer being the Mac App Store runner up. Being cheap cautious I downloaded the trial version but it only took playing with it for about ten minutes to convince me my search was over & to visit the store & buy it.  :)

I have only used it for about a week & only explored a fraction of what it can do but it has already become my favorite drawing app of all time.

You should chat with jackamus and see what he has contributed.

Hi from The Netherlands!

I'm not a professional designer, but I do have great interest in designing stuff (logo's, leaflets, websites etc.) and retouching/editing photo's as I also am a hobby photographer. Up to now I've been using Adobe CS4 Web ('student edition') products. Primarily photoshop, illustrator and dreamweaver. Never upgraded to the latest version, it's way too expensive for non-professional users and 'cloud-only'. I was very excited when I saw Affinity Designer and been using it since november, and I'm having so much fun with it! Recently I also installed Affinity Photo Beta, so most of my Adobe products are no longer in use. The only thing I still "need" to replace is Dreamweaver (haven't found a affordable replacement yet) & Lightroom, and then I'll finally be Adobe-Free. That 'll be the day!

Thank you Affinity for your products and keep up the good work! I like the way you include your user base in developing new features, testing the beta's etc. It's great to see so much enthusiasm in your team!

Best regards,
Remco

p.s. I'm more of a 'forum-lurker' not so much a contributor. Sorry for that.

Hello,

My name is Crosby. I work as a graphic and web designer, photographer and videographer. My design software workflow currently includes InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, with bursts of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Owned computers since the prehistoric ages (Altaire, IMSAI...) and Macs almost since their day 1.

Found Affinity via a post and link in StudioDaily Fix which included a link to a PetaPixel article on Affinity Photo beta. I watched the promo video, drooled, and downloaded it. Clicked back to see what else I've been missing out on and saw Affinity Designer. Me thinks my workflow is due for a change.

Love the YouTube and Vimeo samples and tutorials. Once I get the basic workings and learn where everything is I forsee having a lot of fun. Now to spend the next month searching this forum for goodies. :)

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply and links. I got the Affinity Review magazine. WOW! Love it!

I'm going to work my way through the Affinity Designer tutorials and quick tips on the Affinity site, the YouTube and Vimeo videos, the Tutorial section of this forum and The Pumpkin Tutorial.

My initial focus is on graphic design (logos, ads, mixing photos with vectors, etc.) and web design elements more so than illustration. I think I have a good learning path set up. Then there's Affinity Photo which I need to deep dive into before Affinity Publisher comes out. I'm going to need to wear a bib!  :D

Hello everyone.

While I was delighted with (& purchased) Designer, I'm close to ecstatic about Photo. As a fine-art photographer (www.valleau.gallery) whose work goes to collectors and museums, I spend a lot of time hunched over Photoshop.... and I have a small fortune invested in plugins for it. Without Photo's ability to import and use those, it would have been a non-starter for me.

So far I'm completely impressed by what the Affinity team has done, considering the level of competition. If I find I can switch out of my Adobe "subscription" and into Affinity Photo's arms, I'll do so.

In fact, I'm slightly frustrated that I can't provide you with payment of some kind right now, just to underscore my support for you.

I'm delighted to be here.  :)

Hi tvalleau, welcome to the forums

I've just seen some of your photos at your site, the one called Flowerbox is really impressive

Hello, all. My name is Chris. I stumbled upon Affinity photo while reading an online photography magazine. I have worked as a graphic designer for over 15 years, and photo enthusiast. I have used Adobe products for the duration of my career, but am unhappy with their new subscription-based service.

I have been working with Affinity Photo beta for about two weeks now, mostly for editing raw images. I have done tests, editing a photo in both Photoshop and Affinity Photo, and have been happy with the results. Very comparable final edits.

So far I am very impressed and look forward to future developments in the software.

Creative Director clients from Fortune 200 down to mom and pop accounts. Photoshop user since 2.1. Imagery for motion graphics & video, illustration, interactive plus just about everything from product design, packaging, displays, and video game authoring, to studio music and soundtrack production.

Totally unhappy with Adobe licensing - hold one's master files hostage. Looking for solid, reliable, flexible and expandable alternatives to Adobe Master Collection.

I am groot.

Else, my name's Édouard Puginier, freelance photographer and artistic director since about five years; after ten years as 2D-3D CGArtist, web designer, artistic director, etc in communication companies.

About half my actual time is use to work for TheKeptPromise softwares design.

I'm always trying to optimize my workflow at any level, either by using tools to build my own automations or by searching for software that could really —change— the deal compared to the “Major” crap (yes… do follow my eyes… ^^). Obviously, I've landed here.

Nice to share with you guys to make these apps a terrific and being productive rather than getting crazy even trying to understand why an Adobe (ups, I named it) developper had even thought to code the behavior or let pass the bug we hate (pick one…).
