peter
Hi hgr welcome to the forum. Poor memory problems, I'm with you on that one! These shouldn't be an issue with AD as you only have two personas: pixel and vector mode. The icons in AD are much more visible than AI. Because AD is built out of the frustrations of the Adobe users and the wishes of the Serif users: Affinity has and will, become more and more the goto product when it comes to design. The best thing about the AD suite is the fact that they will all share the same afdesign extension. Well apart from the latest Beta version. motoko
Hey everybody. My name is Niels de Groot, I'm a digital strategist, freelance (music) label manager and freelance artist. Up until recently I only worked on paper and canvas (with markers and pens), creating autonomous pieces. But a couple of months ago I was asked to do some artwork for a friend's label and that kind of forced me to move to digital as well. After comparing various options Affinity Designer matched perfectly with my workflow and my desire to not use Adobe. So far so good, been using it with much pleasure. The only two things I really miss so far is the option to import .abr files (I have quite a few Photoshop brushes, but use Pixelmator for those currently) and the opportunity to do tracing (raster to vector) in AD. I'm forced to use Inkscape (which works really well though). But I would be much happier to move to AD 100%. Anyway, nice to be here and I hope to be able to contribute where I can. Staff MEB Posted January 20, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 20, 2015 Hi motoko, Welcome to Affinity Forums. There's already a couple threads requesting/discussing tracing. For more info check this one. Regarding .abr import i'm not sure if it will be supported. I will try to know more about it. ronnyb
Hello everyone, so happy to be part of this community... I've been a graphic designer since the end-days of Rubylith and analogue style design :o Super excited to see AD laying the foundation to leap-frog the Adobe monopoly in professional graphic design software. One question, I have apparently reached my "quote" for posting image attachements to the forum. Is there a way to overcome this? I am not able to show screenshots in my posts anymore :( Quote 2021 16” Macbook Pro w/ M1 Max 10c cpu /24c gpu, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Sonoma 14.4.1 2018 11" iPad Pro w/ A12X cpu/gpu, 256 GB, iPadOS
Roscografik
hello everybody, I discovered Affinity Designer last week, had a phone call with adobe today (I have a CS2, CS5 and Illustrator CC) because I have compatibility problems from Indesign CS5 to InDesign CS3 or 2 - ID CS4 is needed. So after this phone call  my first step was to buy and load Affinity Designer, and of course I'll work with it :D . To be honest I love Illustrator and work with it for 18 years, I love their pencil and particularly their new improvement on it, but I'm fed up with their marketing thinking and want to discover new tools. …I'm coming soon with new works made with AD.I have two blog:http://roscografik.tumblr.com http://roscografik.wordpress.com MattP and Dale
peter
Hi rosocografik, welcome to the forum. Just seen your Wordpress and was really impressed with your unique style (very Piccasso-esque). You will have a great time using both personas in AD and I'm sure you'll be producing great art, very quickly. This is the pic I liked... MEGraphicDesign
Hello! I am Meagan and I am a graphic designer based in Arkansas (United States). I have been honing in my craft for about seven years and decided that I would use the start of 2015 as the launch point for my own graphic design/photography business. Like most, I was a huge fan of Adobe products during my time learning my craft in college, but after realizing how overpriced the new subscription based plan is for just the three or four programs I need I started to look for comparable replacements. So, with coffee in tow I began my search and nothing seemed to be the complete answer until I found Affinity Designer. This program has completely replaced Illustrator for me. It is like a breath of fresh air...clean and simple. I am looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table for Affinity Photo and Publisher. Cheers, Meagan Dale and MattP

AdrianKLægreid
Hi guys! I am Adrian Lægried, a (hopefully) soon-to-be graphic design student from Norway. AD is my first experience ever with vector based software, and I LOVE IT so far. My hobby before was 3D, working with Blender that hobby lasted for about 4/5 years or so. The AD community is really similar to the Blender community in the way that everybody seems so eager to help each other and being positive. I have currently been using AD for two weeks and posted my first artwork on the forums yesterday. Really can't wait to see the full power AD has to offer and I thank the dev so much for bringing such a great tool to the table. Cya around! Thanks! chepo1956
Hello all! I'm not a developer. I was in Facebook and discovered this software and decided to read about it. It seems that Photoshop finally has some serious competition and that makes me so happy. I've never used this software before being a Photoshop user for some years. I decided to use shortcuts I used in Photoshop discovering they work here too. I will play around and see how it goes for me. I really hope this software makes a dent on Photoshop because I am tired of the Photoshop monopoly. AdrianKLægreid
LesC
Hi, I'm Les, and before today, I had never heard about Affinity. I'm a British expat who has lived in the North of Belgium as of 1959. Retired chemist, translator, medical writer, and electronic document specialist (for digital submission of new drug dossiers). Mac-user as of 1987, in the beginning both professionally and at home. When the pharmaceutical company I had always worked for switched to the dark side (Windows), I remained on Mac at home. Taught Mac OS, Works, Hypercard and MSWord in evening classes for adults for several years. Started digital photography in 2006, two years before my early retirement. Studied Photoshop (5 modules) in daytime adult class and Lightroom (workshop).I am a Moderator on a huge Belgian digital photography forum.I have always been interested in software development from an end user's viewpoint, and - as I am looking for alternatives for Adobe (I like their programs which are more or less the standard, but I hate the subscription model they have now rolled out), have meanwhile tested and used iPhoto (storage of jpg's), Aperture (Apple's alternative to Lightroom - both aforementioned programs are going to be replaced), Onone's Perfect Photo Suite (now at v.9), DxO Optics Pro (now at v.10), as well as plugins and standalones like Nik, Topaz...I will definitely compare this new Affinity with the competition! JaguarGod
Hello. My name is Jason and I have been a Mac user for a long time. I developed a racing sim for OS X in my spare time in 2011 and still work a little on it now and then. Unfortunately, about a year ago, my then wife left me and my 3 children and I simply did not have time to work on it. Being a single Dad with 3 Kids is a job in and of itself and I also run a company here in the states full time. These things keep me busy as heck. But life has gotten much better and I am wanting to get back to developing my game. My girlfriend is loving and supportive of the children and I and racing sims and Macs are special to me. That's why I'm here. I am thankful for everything in my life and for the Affinity products, especially the new Affinity Photo app. I have been using it non-stop and have not touched Photoshop. Jahmanrv
Hi, I'm Julie, and completely new to Serif products. To be honest, never heard of it before this. Friend sent me a link as I was complaining about having to pay for my CC every month. I design Scrapbook kits so use a ton of layers and textures. Also like to make my embellishments look real with creating depth. I'm a big extractor of objects from my photo's, so that will be fun to learn how to do that as well. Will be interesting to learn this new program and compare it to CC.
Airneffect
Hi all, Great to meet the Masterminds behind the great Serif Software! I'm a part time photographer former water dropper. It's amazing the shapes and contortions of a simple water drop collision captured at high speed. But I'm glad to be a part of what is surely to be a new revolution of Photography/Art workflow/manipulation. I loved Photoshop for years but found upgrading and updating cost prohibitive. Also subscription based anything completely turns me off. What I've seen with AFFINITY is very refreshing and it makes me want to go out and create with a passion! That is what a great product is supposed to do. Thanks for all of your great work and I wish you all much success in taking down the Adobe King of the hill. ckapp
Hey All, I'm very excited to get in and play with Photo. A mac addict for many years. Lots of time spent in Aperture and CC. I'm wondering about raw compatibility with my Fuji X100S. Will it read the files? Also, I love working with the Nik suite of plug-ins and have been using them for years... Will these work with Photo? Thanks! Clint
gardencat
Hi, I'm Joanne, I'm basically a hobby photographer and photoshop user, although I have made some money selling prints and cards of some of my photos. I switched over to MAC a couple of years ago and, at that point, picked up CS6 at a cost of hundreds of dollars so I wasn't a happy camper to discover, not too long later, that Adobe had switched to a subscription only bases for the software and I'd have to sign on to that for any updates. I'd love to find another company that provides something equivalent to Photoshop and Illustrator. I've just picked up the Photo Beta and hope to have a go at learning a little about it, with a view to slowly phasing it in and photoshop out, if it looks likely to meet my needs. As of now I am basically stumbling around in there trying to figure out how to do things.

Elliot
Hi, I'm Elliot and recenlty downloaded Affinity PhotoBeta. I have been involved in the photography industry for many years and in different capacities. I was with Nikon USA for 33 years and recently ran my own photography workshop company after retiring. Prior to that I was associated with other camera companies as well as having been a freelance photographer and military photographer. I have worked with a great many raw processing programs such as Lightroom, Capture 1, photo ninja, Irident Raw developer as well as most of the Macphun programs. I now shoot with Fujicolor Xtrans sensor cameras. My current models are the Fuji Xe2, and Fuji Xt1. Sadly the current beta does not support those two cameras which makes evaluating Affinity Photo a bit difficult.
Beau Nash
Hello all, I'm Russell, a semi-pro photographer morphing into a full-time pro. I'm looking forward to the evolution of AP into a polished, effective photo app. So far, it's looking good and the timeliness of the responses of Serif staff to queries and bug reports is impressive. I have used Serif products before but this was in the days of cut-down versions of their programs (they weren't "apps" then) being given away free on magazine CDs (they weren't DVDs then) and upgrading to the paid version. I hope that after AP, they turn their attention to developing a DAM app, especially given the hole left by Aperture's demise.
Light Craftsman
My name is Darron Spohn. I just downloaded Affinity Photo beta a few minutes ago and look forward to learning the program. I'm a long-time PhotoShop user (since version 1.0) and before that used Aldus Digital Darkroom. I'm a professional photographer just getting back into the game after finishing my long-neglected college degree in May 2014. As many others I am looking for a robust professional tool to replace PhotoShop and its monthly subscription.

tooki
Hi everyone! I'm Antonio Tejada, a lifelong Mac user with specific interest in UX (usability, in particular interaction design) and localization, with a background in Mac technical support, and a hobby photographer. Having supported many clients in the graphic arts, I've seen the rise and fall of Quark, FreeHand's sad demise at the altar of Adobe, the various failed attempts at Photoshop competition (xRes, anyone?), etc. There's long been a need for viable competition for Photoshop and Illustrator in the pro market, and I think this might be it! As for me, other than user interface mockups, I'm not much of a graphic artist. :P If you guys ever have questions about Mac UI design or localization issues, feel free to drop me a line! Best of luck with the Affinity apps! Cheers, Antonio peter and MattP
killwilly
Hi everyone. My name is Alan and I am a newbie to the forum. I am retired and live in south Lincolnshire UK. I have been taking photographs since the early 1980's using my Canon T90, which I still have, but rarely use these days. My DSLR cameras are both Canon, a 7D and an EOS-M, together with an eclectic collection of lenses from Canon, Sigma, Zeiss and Hellios. I hope I shall be able to add something to the forum and indeed to the beta version of Affinity. Since downloading it earlier today, I must say from a quick look, it appears to be just what I have been looking for. :) Cheers, Alan
