Vector cutting tool (knife/scissors)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm struggling because I need to cut some vectors but I'm unable to do it without the knife or scissor tool :( And I don't understand exactly why, but when I break the curves I want to delete, everything goes black and it's a mess.

Does anyone knows when are we going to have some vector cutting tool available?

Thanks! :)

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @pitygacio. :)

A vector knife is on the Affinity Designer 1.x roadmap (so it will be added in a free update for version 1 customers) but we haven’t been told when that will happen. Meanwhile, you can use the ‘Divide’ (or ‘Subtract’) Geometry command to cut a closed shape (or cut away part of it).

Hi, pitygacio,

I don't understand why you are getting "everything goes black." Cutting a vector shape using the node tool and breaking a vector 2 times at different locations  should produce two curves that Affinity considers "open." They appear w. the original objects fill and stroke attributes.  If you later do various boolean operations, the attributes of the lowest in the layer hierarchy are transferred to the results. Perhaps that is where the problem originates. The divide operator will make all open voids a black filled shape if the bottom most shape has a black fill.

To whom it may concern,

I cannot trim vector lines, when they cross over other vector lines, using either Scissor or Knife tool, this very effective tool I use with Vectric Aspire for trimming vector line, Aspire manual pdf attached to this article. You only have add, substract, XOR, devide. they limmited for two objects, same as Adobe Illustrator.  Interactive Vector Trim in Aspire is very powerfull.

would be great if it was implemented in Designer, better then what Adobe Illustrator ever had.

It costs $1,995!!! That's way out of reach for me, but thanks for the heads-up.
