John Francis
Hello Forum. I have an issue with colour on Affinity Photo. I'm using a mac which is calibrated (yesterday) with a Spyder 4. The problem is that images opened in Affinity have a red bias to them compared to the view from Apple's Preview. This is especially noticeable on skin tones and is slightly unpleasant compared to the preview look which is slightly warmer and less red. I have set all the colour settings in Affinity to the calibrated Spyder 4 setting but there is still this red bias
Staff Dan C Posted May 22, 2018 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2018 Hi John Francis! If you have set up the Spyder 4 with your Mac at an OS level then the colour settings within Affinity need to remain unchanged to ensure the same colour balance and temperature between Apples preview and Affinity. The default values are as follows: Reverting back to these defaults should fix your issue! Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible. Many thanks! I have set all the colour settings in Affinity to the calibrated Spyder 4 setting but there is still this red bias Hi John, you shouldn't need to change any settings in Affinity Photo—it is colour managed based off the active monitor profile (which should be the profile created by the Spyder 4 software). If you're still seeing a difference between Affinity Photo and Preview, it may be that Preview is interpreting the profile incorrectly. Have you tried previewing the exported image in another app? Preview is famously picky about ICC profiles. For example, displayCal now changes its default settings to compensate: see https://hub.displaycal.net/forums/topic/dark-images-in-mac-photos-preview-with-displaycal-generated-profile/ and https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/271825/bug-macos-sierra-preview-quick-look-issues-with-rendering-colors-of-images-when/272115 (the second link offers a solution). Let us know how you get on! John Francis
I seem to have sorted this issue now. Thanks for all your help.
Roger C
Hi John Any idea how the issue disappeared? Was it in Preview or Affinity, and what did you do? I have a similar issue with colour balance for jpegs between Affinity and ACDSee. R Quote Affinity Designer & Photo : Win
