Vertical Writing in Japanese texts

I am in love with Affinity Designer and excited for more new features to come with the future updates.

 

One of the features I'd like to request is vertical writing for languages like Japanese. Right now, I press enter letter by letter to make them lined up vertically, but it is a bit of a headache when it comes to hyphens, periods, commas and etc. I wonder if you guys could consider implementing this writing format for the future updates. 

 

I'm sorry if this function already exists, but can anyone kindly let me know how?

Instead of pressing Enter after each letter, make the text frame so narrow that it only accommodates one letter on each row. If you set the paragraph to be centre-aligned, the hyphens, commas, etc should line up correctly with everything else.

I agree with this question.
Multiple lines can not be written vertically. It is fatal in Asian script.
Symbols for vertical writing also exist. English numbers are also mixed.
Are you not developing vertical plug-ins in Asia?
And it's a shame to use Adobe.
I expect Expect from Affinity.

Unfortunately your suggestion doesn't work with Japanese vertical text writing since hyphens have to be vertical in Japanese when it's written vertically as well as the alignments of all the punctuations are not in correct position. As wasetsu_an mentioned, it also doesn't work with multiple line phrases. But thank you for your input!

Yeah, +1 on this.

I do a lot of work with a Japanese cultural organization, and when working with Japanese texts (especially in katakana) I've found it's just easier to edit it in inkscape, convert it to curves, and then import it. This, of course, makes the text no longer editable, so I've got a bunch of workaround techniques that I'd rather avoid.

For example, I do all the business cards for the organization, and the Japanese face has vertically oriented names and titles. 「ディレクター」is fine horizontally, but manually editing all of the ー characters to be vertical for vertical text is generally more of a hassle than it's worth.

This and the (super quick and dirty) trace tool are the only reasons I still open inkscape at all anymore.
