Affinity Will Not Allow Me To Open My Files - Says They Are Open Elsewhere

Recommended Posts

I noticed this error began last week. I did not need to use the program so I shrugged it off as some random error. But now I am noticing a lot of my Affinity files arent opening/loading. Instead after a long wait time, the attached message appears. It says that the file is open somewhere else which is not possible.

I can't find anything related to this issue when I search the forums or Google. Was curious if anyone can assist me.

Thanks again.

I'm no expert but it could be that because it is saved on GoogleDrive which makes the file accessible across a network, maybe somewhere in the jungle, some bit of code has a handle on the file?

Try work on the files locally then copy them over to the GoogleDrive folder and see if it still happens. Annoying, yes - but I had the same problem with Microsoft products.

  1. How are you accessing the file?
  2. Do you use a third party app like Expandrive or Mountain Duck?
  3. Have you tried copying the file locally and then trying to opening it?
  4. Have you tried going to the file and opening from Goole drive, instead of opening from Affinity?
  5. Can you access the file from another computer, if available.
  6. Do you have access to another computer with Affinity Designer on?
    1. If so, are you sure you Quit the app?
