Please, bring Web Plus software back!

Thank you.

Web Plus is a Serif product. It would be best to go to the correct website

http://www.serif.com/index.aspx

and click on the Legacy Range option.

or https://community.serif.com

Personally I agree with you. I liked Web Plus :)

The CommunityPlus Forum is the best place to post about this, but it won't bring WebPlus back. Even if the WebPlus project manager hadn't left Serif, it would have been almost impossible to keep WebPlus going without rebuilding it from the ground up to enable it to produce adaptive or responsive sites.

Never say never Alfred.

Which I always thought is a very odd expression because by saying that, you actually do say never. Twice O.o

Then let it resurrect.

@Alfred maybe you can apply for that position and help the thing come back to life.

The problem with WebPlus was that it was always tied to its own proprietary file format - just like Muse, as is likewise the case with Sparkle. The second major issue was that WP (and Muse) used their own "render layer" instead of building on top of an existing web layer, which means everything had to be translated from the first one to a published page/website. Importing existing web pages wasn't possible, for example.

Compare Pinegrow, which doesn't need all that nonsense: it works directly with the actual web files, and is built on existing web tech. Much easier to maintain and develop for, PG is easily integrated in existing (team-based) workflows, and the latest and greatest web tech is quickly implemented by the developers. And it's not a case of "either or" in regards to coding or not coding. Both are supported.

WebPlus and Muse were both incredibly hard to maintain by their respective developers. Always lagging behind the times. Pinegrow has no such chains dragging it down. And building pages in it is actually much faster than Muse and WebPlus could ever hope to be.

@Medical Officer Bones you are really of a great help.

Are you working for Serif or???

In few lines you have raised the issue and brought solutions for WP to resurrect.

Just sharing and agreeing with you but if Serif maintain they will not give WP a new life then, I would propose Serif to make it possible for web designer using Affinity products to collaborate with PG.

How do you think this can be managed?

I believe alot of peoples here want to grow in web design and improve their workflow in that field of specialization but don't want to go back to Muse or any of these other products, so, help us to improve.

Your view is agreable to read.

@redred As it stands, we have no plans for a website builder version of Affinity, which has already been confirmed a number of times in other threads.  It also won't be a feature of Publisher as confirmed by Tony B, the Head of Development, here

Sorry i can't give you any better news, but the Dev guys have no plans to enter the website building world.  A lot further downline and i mean a lot further, who knows.  But for now, if you want to build sites, i'd suggest looking for other software.

Thank you.

@redred if you are using a Mac then go check rapidweaver.

Version 7.5 is released and seems to be nicer than previous ones.

If on windows... Take a look at pinegrow their last version is good too (this one I find it too much technical)

I'm not a webdesign fan nor a webdesigner so, my choice would go to Rapidweaver 7.5 but if you know enough about coding etc... Pinegrow is the best tool out there for you.

Some WebPlus users might be using Macs, but most will not (because it only runs on Windows). Depending on your needs, either Pinegrow or WYSIWYG Web Builder would be a good choice: both have a free trial available, but the one for Pinegrow only lasts for seven days.

Personally when i was building a site, before i gave up on it. I went down the WordPress route.  As long as you watch which plugins you use and that you configure them correctly, then you can build a decent and fast loading site with WordPress.  I only gave up on it due to the hosting expiring and as it was a site trying to index the local street art here in Nottingham, it was a pain to try and put into categories.

Now i stick to Instagram and am looking at setting up a Facebook page to share the larger versions of some of the photos i take.  I may even look at setting my domain backup with a simple blog style and avoid having to put things into categories.

I can't speak for the other apps as i've not tried them out yet, but will certainly be taking a look to see what they can do.

Muse is a dead product so don't bother looking at that

Some of the worst websites I have seen have been created with WordPress. Too many plugins, similar themes and way too slow loading pages on both desktop and mobile devices

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Which is why you need to research any plugin before use and use only the plugins needed, along with the themes.  I have a friend (ex Serif Tech Support) who now works for a major hosting company and a good 65% of his support tickets are misconfigured plugins or badly configured themes, causing sites to either to not load or take a very long time.

I was also looking for website software recently, tried a few freebies, then settled on WYSIWYG Web Builder. It's quite easy to use, whether you base a site on a template or start from scratch, as I did. Considering I hadn't used anything but a 15 year old version of Macromedia Dreamweaver until recently, I found it quite logical to build my own site, I made all the graphics with Affinity Designer (of course), exported as SVG and was able to use them directly in the WYSIWYG software.

This was the result: seanf.de

I was especially impressed with the amount of options for picture galleries (as the site is basically all about the images).

  • 1 year later...

Personally Webplus was the most ingenious and fantastic software i ever used. I still use it today to do so many things. I would vote for it to be resurrected or re-written to come in line with today's web and i feel sure like me, there are thousands out there who would agree with me and get behind what was/is/can still be,  the ultimate web designing software for non techie peeps like me.

Nothing out there even come close to Webplus.
