Hi,

I would like to reconstruct a process of Photoshop and can not find the right way. My intention is to select a section from a picture in the aspect ratio of 1.35:1, to cut this out and to export the section as a jpg for web application. I already have the problem that I can save the said aspect ratio, but can't select it afterwards.

Could someone please briefly describe the procedure?

And sorry for not being an english native speaker ;)

Thanks

Sven

Is that the correct ratio? Do you mean 2.35:1 which is 21:9 (1.33:1 is 4:3)

1.35:1 is practically square and the dimension is negligible, even an aspect ratio calc shows this ratio as square.

Perhaps I'm confused, but as you mentioned, 1.33:1 is 4:3 which is not square. And 1.35:1 is slightly less square. I'm not sure why an aspect ratio calculation would show it as square.

found a better calc, so apparently 1.35:1 is also 10:7

I couldn't add decimal ratios into the custom ratio option so was looking for a ratio calc that could give me integer numbers, like this one can: Ratio Calc so now I can add a 1.35:1 ratio as 10:7 and get the crop/selection that Sven1313 asked for.

Wrong, wrong and all sorts of wrong argh!

You need a still better one: 10:7 is a ratio of 10/7 or about 1.4286:1.

You might as well go the whole hog and say "about 1.42857:1"! ;)

It's quite fun to observe the pattern you get when you multiply 142857 by 2, or 3, or anything up to 7. :)

The Mac Calculator app shows the ratio as 1.4285714286:1, so that would be an even more whole hog, I guess. But Google says it is 1.42857142857:1, even more of the whole hog?

But let's not go there because that would be butchering this topic.... xD

If you've saved the aspect ratio, you probably did that by selecting "Custom Ratio" as the Cropping Mode, then specifying 135 by 100, then clicking  "Custom Ratio" again and selecting "Add Preset", and then giving it some name and clicking Ok.

After that, to use your preset you would select the cropping tool, click on the mode (which is probably "Unconstrained" by default), look down the list of modes to find the name of your preset, and click it.

Was I close?

I'd accept, ball park accurate lol!

Damn not even close, quite a discrepancy between sizes ¬¬ back to school I go.

Hi Sven

Do as R C-R suggests with 135 : 100 or set a custom ratio of 27 : 20.

That works for me.

If I set a custom ratio of 27 : 20, crop the image and then enter 135 in the Resize Document, Size box, the other dimension becomes 100resize.jpg.206c81b9a01325dbc240b7bd7979d908.jpg

P.S. No calculators (online or otherwise) were abused or injured in the making of this post ;)

I tried that already, but having inserted the 135 of your example I have to click on the lock to unlock and lock again to make the tool calculate the other dimension. Is that normal?

You could just click in the second box if you want to see what the size is

click.jpg.39279e12604d1191d19b6e94650661f1.jpg

But there is no need, if you click on Resize it will resize it correctly to 135 x 100. The second box display does not change automatically but if the lock is set, the image will resize to the original ratio.

If the lock is not set (i.e. unticked before entering 135), it will resize to the dimension displayed in the second box.
