Denis English
I am not an artist but using a Wacom in Paint on my PC to create illustrations for a series of Children's Books I've written. The tutorials I have been able to find all seem to assume that Wacom users like me are all using Photoshop. I am not into Photoshop and hope that I can do what I want to do using a Wacom in the Paint program on my PC. I can't find out whether I'm doing something wrong - but when I try to 'layer' a character over a background (the airbrush in 3D is my favourite for backgrounds), the character that looks great in it's original 'transaprent' form, is imported with white blurry lines around the edges. I know that I am probably doing something basically wrong, but have asked the question due to being unable to find an answer in the usual forums. Have attached an example of what is happening. Thanks, Denis.
Staff Gabe Posted May 8, 2018 Staff Share Posted May 8, 2018 Hi @Denis English, Welcome to the forum. I'm not quite sure if I understood this right. Are you using Microsoft Paint or Affinity to design the illustrations? Thanks, Gabe.
Denis English
Gabriel I am using Microsoft Paint but I'm open to suggestions for similar programs. This book thing is very much a side line - I produce TV ads which I have shot and edited for a long time. Photoshop and similar tools have very much been left to specialist editors who work with me in those more high end areas. Thanks, D

firstdefence
@Denis English take a look at Medibang its a cool app and its free, its way better than MS Paint and using a Wacom will only enhance the experience. take a look at Affinity its a good piece of kit but I think Medibang will suit your needs more. SrPx
Those white squares are from the JPG loss algorithm. For importing characters is best PNGs, and if are not coming anyway from a poorly compressed JPG.... Even in MS paint you can erase those white chunks carefully. But if is for some fast mock-ups for your graphics team, is not worth the cleaning time. If you purchase Affinity Photo, there's a collection of fast, easy ways to remove that perfectly. Did you do that in Medibang or Affinity? With Medipaint it helps to watch a few Videos first to get a feel for it. Remember to use Layers, so you can do the background first on one layer and then sketch "foghorn, I say foghorn, look at me when I talking boy leghorn" on another layer over the top of the background layer Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... firstdefence
The difference between an average artist and a good artist is the amount of time spent drawing. Try, nah do draw everyday, even if its a two min sketch, in a year you will be surprised by how much you have improved Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more...
