Hi jaydrayer,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity is not able to import text as editable text from an EPS file (currently we don't support embedded fonts). If you check the layers in the Layers panel you will note that all letters were converted to curves (paths) and are identified as such (between parenthesis) there. Adobe Illustrator is usually able to do it because it embeds an Ai file inside the EPS which is what it uses to load the file and keep everything editable. We don't have access to this data as it's closed/proprietary.

i just read this post now...

and i have to say, i'm a user of coreldraw since roundabout 25 years. they had the option of embedding fonts in their EPS-exportfilter since the beginning, and the import of EPS files with embedded fonts has been working from the start, too. there was always the choice of importing text as vectors or as text for editing it. in the most cases (99 %) everything's been fine, especially if the fonts were installed - in other cases there has been the choice of panose as you use it in the PDF importfilter.

so what's the problem with creating EPS import- and exportfilters with editable text?

Hi joern_ki,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
It's a question of time/dev resources. Some tasks/features take considerable time and testing to implement. We have achieved quite a lot during these last years but it's not possible to get everything from the start otherwise the apps would never be launched. We don't support embedded fonts in PDF's either. Hopefully things will get better as development continues.

Hi everone 😊
Is there any news about editing text in *.eps files?
Just bought Affinity Designer a few days ago and now searched the forums after struggling with the non-editable text in those files...

Is it really still not possible to import *.eps files with text as editable text in 2021? (in v2.0 maybe?)

Affinity Designer is really an awesome tool but this is a core thing (in my opinion) as most of the *.eps templates we're working with require text editing 😕

Best regards 😊

When exporting an EPS from Designer... are the fonts preserved? For example, if someone opened a Designer EPS export in AI, would the text be editable?
