Object align

Recommended Posts

Yes, Please!!!

This one of those things Illustrator gets right, but in the wrong way. Illustrator requires a second "selection" of the object to which the others will distribute in accordance to. That works, in the sense that there's even a stronger outline on that shape so you can see which one it is, but it would be even nicer if there was a choice between backmost, frontmost, first picked and last picked.

In this way, if I draw a box, then draw a sub box that's smaller, and duplicate it a few times, then select that group of objects, pick Distribute in consideration of backmost, I'm done.

Or maybe just do it the Adobe way so that everyone can bring the same thinking straight over.

Yep. I like Illustrator way... It was never intuitive, a friend had to tell me that otherwise I would never, never find out lol. CorelDraw has an interrestintg approuch, the last object you select is always the "anchor". Whatever the AD developer team decide will certainly work better than right now :)

p.s.: Align shortcuts would be great too... I guess CorelDraw is the only one who does it at the time... In Illustrator I had to create an action to center a object in the page for example. That is another thing to consider in my opinion!

I still trip out at how far "ahead of its time" Corel Draw was 15 years ago. That it's still there is just staggering.

You'd think people would figure out that despite its slightly buggy performance (at times) the speed of working in it for design work is astonishing because the base functionality has actually been thought through from the user perspective.

Right click for outline colour vs left click for fill colour swatches going the length of the screen in either direction is also BRILLIANT!

Funny to hear that... I was just saying that this morning (were you in the room??). How about drag and right click to duplicate an object, or double click for rotating and skew? lol... I don't want to praise a competitor, but I have to say that CorelDraw has its charm... bugy or not, it is an excellent application... Anyway, Affinity has a lot of potencial to do for the Mac what Corel did for Windows!! Go AD!

Yes it was, except it's not only because of them. Some of their best features come originally from Xara LTD who licensed their software (Xara Studio) to Corel that sold and distributed it as CorelXara for a few years until Xara got back its control. Credit where credit is due.
