Scott Prock
Greetings! I'm trying to find out how I can punch a hole in an object in Affinity Photo. (not Designer) With Photoshop, I'm used to just grabbing the marquee tool, draw a selection and hit delete since everything is in raster form. When I try searching online or in the AF forums I keep getting information related to Affinity Designer. Thanks ... Scott
AffinityJules
I just use the appropriate marquee tool and either use CUT or DELETE. Works for me. Quote Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe. These are not my own words but I sure like this quote. Scott Prock
Well, I figured it out ... The object (a rectangle) has to be rasterized first. I was unaware that objects in "Photo" were not already rasterized. Now I do ... Scott
Fixx
If you do not want to rasterize layer (for example to be able to scale it freely later on) you can mask a hole to your image. That is non-destructive and keeps the original image as it is. Scott Prock
Scott Prock
Thanks Fixx, I was creating a FB cover and wanted to create a 10 pixel wide border around the inner edge of the image. There are several ways to do this but the quickest way I have done this in the past is to just use the marquee to punch out the center of the rectangle leaving a 10 px border. I'll have to try the mask, which is another item that is a little different than I'm used to Thanks again ... Scott

Why not just set the rectangle to no fill with a 10 px stroke, inside alignment, Scale with object disabled, & snapped to the image dimensions? Scott Prock
Many thanks R C-R! I love learning new, and more efficient ways to reach a certain result. I also like that you don't have to rasterize the object to achieve the border. ... Scott
