Masks/Live filters are added on top of active layer instead of being nested

Recommended Posts

Hi Affinity,

Since updating to Affinity Photo (1.6.6 on Mac), whenever I add a mask or a live filter to an active layer the mask or the live filter is added on top of the active layer, instead of being added as a nested mask, under the layer. I also encounter this in v. 1.6.7.

I have to manually drag the mask or live filter into its correct place each time.

Hi Peter, this shouldn't have changed just because of an update, but check your assistant settings (the tuxedo icon). Photo allows you to toggle this behaviour separately for adjustments, masks and live filters. Hope that helps.

[Edit] Forgot to add, but if you specifically deselect (either by clicking in a blank space within the Layers panel or by going to Select>Deselect Layers) then the behaviour is to add as a new layer.
