gilsoncav
I'm importing my raw files directly from the Apple card reader on my iPad pro 2 9.7". The RAW file goes to the Photos App by default (i don't know if there is an option to change this behavior). After that, i go to the AP App and open a new file importing from photos. The problem is: the file opens with oversaturated colors without any touch to any of the RAW persona slides and options! My camera is a Nikon D750 with FLAT profile in settings. I don't know if the difference will be visible in the two screenshots that i attached here. I captured my ipad screen with a Samsung S8+ Thanks in advance for the assistance. Staff Gabe Posted April 11, 2018 Staff Share Posted April 11, 2018 Hi @gilsoncav, Welcome to the forum. The behaviour should be the other way around unless the profile you're using is "flatter" than the raw image. The Photo gallery app would display the embedded jpeg, while Affinity would open the RAW, with RAW preview. Can you please upload the RAW file so we can have a look for you? Thanks, Gabe. Staff Gabe Posted April 16, 2018 Staff Share Posted April 16, 2018 Hi @gilsoncav, I've just tried it on both Desktop and Ipad, and on Photoshop, and the Raw file opens up more saturated than the preview. This is because it's opening up the embedded Jpeg, which has the "flat" profile attached. Any adjustments you make to the colour profile would not be reflected in the RAW. See below for comparison. There would be a slight difference on the Ipad as the engine is different and the screen would look more vivid, but it's not significantly different from the other 2. Edit: You can also disable the "Auto tone curve" in develop mode and that will open up the "RAW" file, without the applied curve. Open any new document>Tap on the file icon in the top left corner>Assistant>RAW tone curve>Take no action. You can then close the Document and open the images as normal. gilsoncav
I disabled the auto-tone curve and it seems the same as the visualization in the Photos stock app (i'm using now the 11.4 iOS beta version - i dont believe that it causes any difference but...). Just to be sure if i got right: the AffPhoto App is opening and importing the RAW itself, right? The so called jpeg embedded in the RAW always keeps nagging in my mind: "am i looking to the RAW crude pixels or a downsized oversaturated preview embedded in the RAW file?". Staff MEB Posted April 17, 2018 Staff Share Posted April 17, 2018 Hi gilsoncav, Welcome to Affinity Forums An easy way to know is checking how the file was opened. If it's a RAW file it will open in Develop Persona - in the case of the iPad version the interface/studio on the right will look exactly like the two last screenshots above. A JPG (or any other processed format) will open in Photo Persona which has a different interface (no Develop buttons in the context toolbar on bottom nor the Basic studio with the sliders you see above on the iPad version). You can easily check this opening a RAW file - you should see the interface (Develop Persona) as shown above in the Gabriel post (latest two screenshots). As soon as you click the Develop button on bottom the RAW is converted/developed into a processed image - note how the interface and studio's icons/panels on the right have changed - you are now in Photo Persona which is the default Persona used to open/edit processed images.
