CPU temperature kind of high, fans going crazy

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just got a new video card (gtx 1060, my old one was a gtx 750), got a new case (antec 302) which has 2 huge coolers (as opposed to my old case, which had only one small cooler), and switched to windows 10 (was using windows 7 until now). I noticed that if I keep Affinity opened for a few hours, the fans start going crazy at some point, and the cpu temperature goes over 60 degrees Celsius. I know that's not a lot, but my cpu temp barely hits 50 when playing counter strike go for example, so going to 62-63 seems a bit unnatural. When I close Affinity, everything goes back to normal immediately (32-33 degrees Celsius). Why does this happen, and is this normal?

Thanks,

Chris

Only after running the application? Without opening any file? APh or ADe?

On my PC it takes 0% CPU, even after opening the file.
The "marching ants" work as a heater - CPU load increase significantly.

This could trace, what is causing increased CPU loads.
Alternatively, send the original to try and confirm others.

  • What antivirus are you running? (Had an instance recently with Avast and high CPU usage)
  • Could be a BIOS issue, do you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard?
  • Is Win10 updating? (Win10 loves to update and add new features)

It's not a specific file, it just goes nuts on a certain file (could be any file) on certain tasks. When I close the file, the cpu calms down, and the temp returns to 34 deg Celsius.

Open up Task Manager and scroll down the list of programs and see which program is using how much of the cpu.

After further observing, here's what I found. Affinity goes crazy when I open svg files (especially if there are several svg files opened, like more than 3) and if I leave them opened for more than 20-30 minutes, while working with another affinity file. If they remain opened, Affinity starts raping the CPU :). As soon as I close the svg files, everything goes back to normal. I attached a screenshot of the CPU usage by Affinity.

I have an I5-4690 processor, and a Geforce GTX 1060 video card. Would the older model of processor be the problem? I didn't have this problem with my old video card (gtx 750). I changed to 1060 recently (and windows 10) and that's when these things started to happen.

Went to almost 90%, it seems that if I work and I have several files opened in Affinity, the cpu goes wild. The work arouned suggested WhiteX didn't seem to work unfortunately :(

So the problem is actually having several files opened in affinity for a period of time of over 20-30 minutes approximately.

I'm also still experiencing high levels of CPU activity when there should be none. I can't pin it down to one particular action other than having several files open at the same time.

Hopefully it's already being investigated. I posted a thread here:

I have a similar when working with several open files, even if I don't use the files, and even in idle.

For me, a strange workaround was to shift through the files (clicking their titles), and then the CPU load dropped to 0.

It happened with photos, and with .ai files.

I assume it's a tough one to detect and reproduce on their end, as it might be related to a combination of hardware and software.

Yeah definitely, on my previous configuration, which was not as good as my current one, I didn't have this problem.

edit: yeah, that works too :D Cycling between files I mean.

Any progress with this problem? Just installed latest version (v1.6.5.123) and caught the CPU idling at 99% and laptop getting very warm. Clicking the tab for each open document (four in total) stopped it.

We (think we) have a fix for this, but it arrived too late for the 1.6.5 patch. Instead it should be available in 1.7.

Due to the announced changes and the alleged reworking of the "interior" of applications, we can expect great improvement but also a degradation :-)
