Much worse is what was done with the logo, but Serif does not seem to care much about that.

I wonder if they were told that it would be cropped if it wasn’t square. I can’t imagine them submitting it like that if they knew!

I see that Plex has had a surge of support and has nearly caught up with Penbook, but both are still well behind the leaders. At 23%, Todoist currently has half as many votes as Affinity Designer.

We weren't informed, or asked for artwork. They've taken it from the Windows Store package, but clearly someone hasn't chosen the most suitable one...

 not only cropped …

No, that isn't all they've done, and there are some horrible JPEG artefacts despite the small amount of compression which has been applied, but it really wouldn't look too bad it they had cropped away the bottom instead of the top. The app name appears underneath each logo anyway, so its inclusion in the image is superfluous.

But it could have been corrected since some time …

From a professional point of view, it is incomprehensible that Serif (or who feels responsible for the corporate design) tolerates very different variants.

It's not a big deal. We've got more important things to be working on, rather than spending time working with Microsoft (and the company that is running the event), just to get the icon changed, for a 2 week vote. It's not going to put people off buying the product is it.

It was about the “logo” in the M$S.

What's wrong with the logo in the Micro$oft Store, and why the quotation marks around the word "logo"? :/

1. it is not the logo, just an illustration with parts of it. For exampe you are not missing that stupid little tail?! :D

2. Mark Ingram wrote “icon”.

The Micro$oft Store version of the logo/icon is deliberately different, so that you can easily distinguish it from the desktop version. If you think that that tail is stupid, why are you bothered about its absence from the "flat" version?

The logo in the M$ Store looks OK here:

Microsoft-Store_AffinityDesigner.jpg.a0e87e25238cb5cda4a52fc897502518.jpg

The icon on the Windows Developer Awards page would have looked fine if they had cropped off the bottom third like this:

Microsoft-Store_AffinityDesigner_180x180_good.png.080135ffb0605ed4ff01eb1531b7ab64.png

But they didn't; they cropped off the top third instead:

Microsoft-Store_AffinityDesigner_180x180_bad.png.63b1b050970122a644e64b97bf30afa5.png

And then they shrank it from 180px square to 150px square (and probably sharpened it, too, which would account for the black outlines around the letters):

@Alfred

The logo should look more like this:

It is about the basic principles of corporate design, not about feelings. You probably misunderstood something / wanted to miss the emoticon.

Hello everyone, just to let you know, we're one of the finalists in this year's Microsoft Windows Developer Awards, in the Application Creator of the Year category. If you have a Microsoft account (e.g. Hotmail, Xbox, Office365), and feel like giving us your support, then you can cast your vote at the following page:

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/projects/events/build/2018/awards

Thanks for your time.

I posted that page on 2 Affinity Facebook groups that talks about AP and Designer so maybe people will vote.
