How can I scale a perfect circle selction from the center?

Recommended Posts

I have a square document with two perpendicular guides that are pinpointing the center of my project. I need to constrain a perfect circle from the center point outward. How do I do this? Some old posts mentioned Ctrl+drag, but that does not work. Does anyone know how to do this in Affinity Photo on Windows?

I'ld do it this way:
Select the Elipse Tool
On the content Toolbar:
- set  Fill to none
- set color & style & width to your choise
Hold the Shift key and drag the circle

(set snapping on)
Select the Move tool and place the circle in the center
Click Convert to curves on the toolbar

Edit:

SHIFT+CTRL  + drag from the center will do the same ...

For a selection...

Select the Ellipse Tool

SHIFT + CTRL and drag from the centre of your document

CTRL + CLICK on the ellipse's thumbnail in the Layers panel, to get a selection

Delete the ellipse

You are using the selection tool

You have to use the ellipse tool (shape) and then turn it into a selection (as shown above)

Ahh. I see what is going on now. My original question was regarding the selection and not the shape.

Thanks for the workaround... a shape and then a selection from that.

I wish Affinity could just support that from a selection basis, but I am still mighty grateful that I have such a wonderful alternative to being forced to rent software from Adobe.

Thanks everyone.

So here is the solution from my personal notes:

Q. How can I draw a perfectly constrained circle selection from the center outwards?

A. Although it is not possible to do this directly with the Eliptical Marquee Tool there is a workaround:

Method 1

  • Select the Ellipse Tool (U)

  • Place your center point where you want it.

    • It is helpful to drag out perpendiclar guides and turn on snapping for this.

  • Shift+Ctrl+LMB drag out your circle to your desired size.

  • Optional: Click Convert to Curves in the Ellipse Tool Options.

  • Ctrl+LMB click on the Ellipse shape's icon in the Layers tab to make the selection.

  • Create a new pixel layer.

  • Fill the selection.

Why would you go through all that when you have a shape? Fill the circular shape with a colour or an image.

It you want it to be pixels, rather than a vector just go Layer > Rasterise afterwards.
