Hey,

I have a scan from a magazine cover and I'm trying to extract the face from it.  The magazine's print is...well...magazine-y if you know what I mean.  I've been trying to get rid of the magazine texture without sacrificing any lighting/shadow information.  I don't care if the skin texture (pores, leather texture, etc.) gets a little messed up.  Any suggestions?  I tried blurring but it blurs the shadows and makes it hard to see any details.

This isn't for anything commercial fyi.

The magazine "texture" is called moire, caused by the printing pattern. There is a special FFT filter for getting rid of it

@Youth, you will have to forgive @Alfred and @toltec. They do tend to get carried away. At least toltec did suggest a useable solution. Despite its complex algorithm FFT is fairly straightforward to use and it usually works for me.

So far, no one has managed to carry either of them far enough away to prevent this sort of thing. Whether that is a good or bad thing is open to debate.... 200.gif
