Add exported filename to slices

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm using Affinity Designer to create icons.

I a single layer, I have an icon with 7 sizes.

My slices names as like this:

_16x16

_32x32

_64x64

etc.

When I'm in the Export Persona, I select "Slices" and clicks "Export slices", then I enter a name like "MyIcon".

Is there a way to tell Affinity Designer to merge the exported filename "MyIcon" into the slicename, så the slice names will end up as...

MyIcon_16x16

MyIcon_32x32

MyIcon_64x64

...?

That way I can reuse the layer, change the icons and export it with a new name like "MyNewIcon" and it will automatically export slices as ..

MyNewIcon_16x16

MyNewIcon_32x32

MyNewIcon_64x64

I would like to call the slice names something like...

{filename}_16x16

{filename}_32x32

{filename}_64x64

etc.

Thanks

You can customize the slice file output naming in the Export Persona under the top "path components" settings via a combination of text and the available variables. See also this thread where some of these things are discussed inside:

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Thank you for answering my post.

Not exactly what I'm looking for.

When you click "Export slices" a save-dialog appears ... the name you enter as filename in this dialog, that is the name I want to prefix on all slices.

Save dialog allows you to define only the disk name. This is necessary, because the file path definition in Export Persona is only relative.

If the icon is square then the square size variable is adequate.

Did you look at the instructions from firstdefence?

You mean the film? Yes. But I cannot see that firstdefence is using the filename to define the exported slice name. He is using the slicename variable, which I would like to use for something else...

I want to create a template with artboards for different social media. So the slice name is for example "insta post", "insta story" or "fb post". When I use this this template to create content for different media, I would like to throw in the file name of the Affinity Document so not all exports have the exact same file name...

And why don't you write some text there?

Because it's a template and there are several slices which should use this variable. I tried User variables, but it get's created only on one slice. The use of this is unclear to me, too ;-)

Bumping this again as a new user coming over from PS. A file name variable is a no-brainer. I would also like a layer index variable formatted to two digits (e.g., 01, 02, 03, etc.).

So without any effort on my part renaming layers, I could get slices like...

MyImage_01.png
MyImage_02.png
MyImage_03.png
MyImage_04.png
MyImage_05.png
MyImage_06.png
MyImage_07.png
MyImage_08.png
MyImage_09.png
MyImage_10.png
MyImage_11.png
MyImage_12.png
MyImage_13.png
MyImage_14.png
MyImage_15.png
MyImage_16.png

Presently, I must manually rename 16 layers to achieve this result.
