Staff MEB Posted March 26, 2018 Staff Share Posted March 26, 2018 Hi AtiDeziner, Welcome to Affinity Forums It's not possible to apply a brush to a (vector) stroke/path in Affinity Photo. Affinity Designer has both a vector brush engine (the one you are using to apply a brush to the stroke in Draw Persona) and a raster based brush engine used in Pixel Persona (in Affinity Designer) and in Affinity Photo. This raster brush engine can only be used to paint directly on canvas. It's doesn't use a path as a "skeleton" for the brush as the vector engine in Designer. kaffeeundsalz
Hi @MEB, is there any news on this? Has the "stroke path" feature been recognized as a feature request for Affinity Photo and/or Designer? I ask because while working on a project, I came across a task where this feature would have been very, very useful. We found our workarounds, but anyway, a status update on this would be really appreciated.
Staff MEB Posted January 13, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 13, 2019 Hi kaffeeundsalz, This was originally a question, not a feature request - at least it wasn't recognised/acknowledged as such. There wasn't changes here. Feel free to add it to the Feature Requests section. I don't believe the vector brush engine will be added to Photo but there may be a simplified way to somehow implement a stroke path function/feature. Go on, buy Designer Now we are about to leave Europe and sail off into the Atlantic we could do with the money I'll use my share to buy some Bratwurst so you get something back. kaffeeundsalz
@toltec I do have Affinity Designer and that's what we used as the workaround I mentioned above. It's just that in comparison to vector brushes, there are far more raster brushes available, many of which would have better suited the effect that we wanted to achieve. And as far as I can see, even Affinity Designer can't stroke a raster brush along a path. Or can it?! P.S. Bratwurst it is! Enjoy your meal! Staff MEB Posted January 14, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 14, 2019 Hi kaffeeundsalz, Affinity Designer can use a raster based brush to stroke a path. Try for eample with one from the Textured section In Draw Persona. Raster brushes from Pixel Persona don't work with paths - this one is the same engine as the one used in Affinity Photo - you must use the brushes from Draw Persona only when working with paths. kaffeeundsalz
Hi @MEB, thank you for making this clear, so yes, this is what I had expected. "Raster brushes from Pixel Persona don't work with paths" – and that's really sad. Should I open a separate feature request thread for this? All the best kaffeeundsalz
