How to fade edges of a photo and it’s canvas?

Recommended Posts

I attached photo. How?

Trying to make photo and it’s canvas appear as if manifesting from the ethereal plane into our existence. Thus, no edges at all, kind of like a *phasing* into reality look.

I guess it depends on the background you want, if it’s fade to black have you just tried using a soft texture brush all around the edges? Or you could use a gradient tool but I had more success with a paint brush. Depends on the effect you are after in you minds eye.

My dad always told me, a bad workman always blames their tools….

Just waiting for Ronny Pickering…..

1. In the Selection Persona, choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool.

2. Set the amount of feathering you want.

3. Drag out a selection inside the pixel layer.

4. In the Pixel Persona, duplicate the selected region.

5. Hide the original pixel layer.

Where is the soft texture brush? There doesn’t seem to be a brush called soft brush.

I think Paul simply meant any brush that doesn’t have a hard edge. :)

Thank you.

I’m registering what you are saying as, bring down the hard edge of the brush.

I tried doing the technique you mentioned @Alfred unfortunately, I must be doing something, I still get the picture frame edges of the canvas itself showing.

Stull working on on this one.

Assuming you haven't neglected to hide the original pixel layer at step 5, you can't have begun with a pixel layer (as assumed at step 3). If you used a 'Place' command (accessed via the Commands menu) you will have an 'Image' layer, not a 'Pixel' layer, and you will need to rasterize it before you can work on it at the pixel level (e.g. to duplicate selected pixels rather than the entire layer). Go to the Commands menu and choose 'Rasterize > Rasterize' to perform the required conversion.
