OldytroN
What exactly are they? I got the rar files when I bought Designer and Photo, but I have no clue as to what i'm supposed to do with them. Do I unpack the rar file? If so where exactly do they go?
Staff MEB Posted March 22, 2018 Staff Share Posted March 22, 2018 Hi OldytroN, Welcome to Affinity Forums Yes, unzip/unpack the file(s). You will find a QuickStart_Guide.pdf inside (on both) that explains how to install them. Let me know if you have trouble. OldytroN
Got it. Thanks for the help!
v_kyr
Yes you have to unrar/unzip these archives to some desired folder (directory) where you want to keep them). You can always load them in again from there then. The Grade-UI kit offers assets catalogs for common iOS etc. UI element components, it's mostly useful for ADesigner to make UI prototypes etc. The macro-pack offers some common useful macros for APhoto image tweaking, since macros are supported only there you use it for APhoto. Staff MEB Posted March 22, 2018 Staff Share Posted March 22, 2018 That's all explained in the QuickStart_Guide.pdf. What they are and how to install them. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference
v_kyr
I know, but not all people seem and tend to read or understand these things (aka readme files, installation instructions, docs etc.), otherwise this forum wouldn't always contain repeatedly such questions. OldytroN
Thank you v_kyr, I appreciate you taking the time to explain it fully to me. I'm definitely going to get full use of both Macros in Photo and the Swatches in Designer! v_kyr
Ohwell
The guide explain how to use the UI assets, but don't explain where it is suppose to be set. For exemple, Photoshop and Illustrator have specific folders where goes it presets. I came to the forum looking for the same answer since I didn't found any folder for Affinity, only to some Moderator brush it off as we were idiots. Thank you for nothing. :P And a real thank you, v_kyr, for the patience to explain.
Staff MEB Posted July 3, 2018 Staff Share Posted July 3, 2018 Hi Ohwell, Welcome to Affinity Forums There's no folders to place the assets/presets etc. You have to import them using the process detailed in the guide which is clear/well explained - that's why i haven't add the steps here. The assets/presets/brushes whatever are then imported to a file inside /Users/{your username}/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/Application Support/user/ on a Mac. Still have to check the exact path for Windows. You have no direct control over the files. R C-R
Adding very slightly to what @MEB said, at least on Macs all the assets are stored in a single file (or one per user if there is more than one user account on the computer using Affinity Designer), & any imported ones are added to that file. This I believe is done for performance & for memory & storage efficiency reasons -- the file format is binary, not publicly documented but appears to have a database-like structure optimized for that. So basically, there is no good reason for users to access this file directly -- there is nothing useful you could do by opening it & likely damage it if you did anything to alter its structure. Rather than use the program's in-built export and import assets function could you just copy this file to another PC and have access to all your assets on that PC? Assuming the other PC does not have its own assets file with anything in it not on the 'donor' PC that one would want to preserve, my guess is that would work fine, but there might be some access/permissions issues to resolve, so I would not advise it without a good backup strategy in place. carl123
Actually, I was thinking about backups. If someone has a lot of assets it may be prudent to add that file to their backup routines just in case their C: drive dies or their Laptop is stolen etc Likewise for other affinity added resources (e.g. brushes) Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum.
