Boolean add or Create compound inconsistancy

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Im literally brand new to vector designs, and I don't mean to affinity, I mean on any software (about 1 hour in total under my belt)

I have created a simple box that is going to be laser cut. When I try and create a compound I end up with what is seen on the screenshot. The thing that I don't understand is that both rectangles have the same x co-ordinate (matching the big squares relevant line) and hence intersect the square in the same line.  As a result it should technically work the same way and create the same result of one big shape

the only side working correctly is the right side in the screenshot. all other squares are behaving differently

attached is the project as a well

I've tried to use add as well as create compound. im sure im doing something wrong.

I can not afford to move the rectangles as this entire project is to be laser cut

Kindly advise

Thanks

Regards

Hi Irfaan,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

There's still a couple issues with boolean operations that we are already aware and need to fix (including cases like this). A simple way to work around the issue is extending/dragging the bottom edge of the small rectangles to inside the bigger rectangle area then perform the add boolean operation. This way their edges will not overlap the main rectangle edge which is what's causing the issues here.

Ah yessssss ok cool. In my head I did not realize that extending the rectangle inwards will be irrelevant once I use Boolean add :)  Was too focused on it being the right length in its protrusions !

awesome thanks so much. Problem solved in 3 seconds

:)
