AP v1.6.4.104 Crash on 'New from Clipboard'

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is a repeatable crash taking the following steps:

  • Merge to HDR
  • 'prt scr' and Cancel
  • Create a new image with the 'New from Clipboard'

Note that sometimes it may also happen when you try to open a image that was exported. Crash reports have been sent by the app.

Hey AiDon,

I'm struggling to reproduce this.

Can you attach the files you're doing the merge with please? I notice you have camera data in the files so it may be specific to the camera itself.

Would you also be able to clarify if you're using the standard Windows Print Scrn function and not a 3rd party screenshot app. I will assume you mean 'cancel' out of the HDR merge and not a 3rd party screenshot app?

Hi Chris,

Yes using the standard Windows print screen, note also using the GTX 1050 with up to date drivers, I haven't tried to reproduce it using the Intel HD 630 but I shall. The 3 images are from a Canon 5DsR so they are quite large and you can download from this dropbox link:

It seems to be OK with the HD630 but then when I started up again after changing back to the NVIDIA and selected the files for the HDR merge i received this error displayed on the screenshot attahced. Then the last time the Cancel (from Tone Map) and New from Clipboard with the NVIDIA 1050 worked fine ... ??

Hey AiDon,

I'm getting general crashes with HDR merging using my Nvidia card using current drivers (391.01) but WARP does not crash. I've logged this with development. Can you confirm which driver version you are using?

Yes using the latest which is 391.01

11 hours ago, Chris B said:

I guess the biggest problem with warp is that it takes 7 minutes to get to the Tone Mapping from starting the HDR (my PC isn't slow either) and then if you press Cancel it goes through the process of 'Not Responding' for a while ... but ... it does not crash ... ?

Yes, using WARP isn't really a workaround due to the amount of time it takes. I was almost doubling your 7 minutes when I was trying it...

I'm going to try a few more test machines to see if we can find a pattern. I couldn't reproduce it on an AMD card but I could on another slightly more powerful Nvidia card. Interestingly, a colleague who has the same card as me and the same driver couldn't reproduce it o.O

Hi Chris,

This time I decided to use the NVIDIA, Tone Map with the Natural preset and adjust the black point, brightness and exposure and selected APPLY ... and got this where, for some reason the opacity was affected during the return to the Pixel Persona:
