Is there a way to apply the 'tone mapping' persona to a layer as and still have it be editable, akin to applying a Camera Raw filter to a 'smart object' layer in Photoshop?

ie, not have the tone mapping be destructive and 'baked' onto the layer.

Probably obvious but I just can't figure out how,

Cheers

It depends what you mean by.... "and still have it be editable"

You can duplicate your image apply a tone mapping to the duplicate then add a mask to the duplicate layer and paint on the mask to remove (or reduce the effect of) the tone mapping from parts of the image

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

I mean be able to apply tone mapping, and then later edit that tone mapping if needed, rather than having to recreate it from scratch.
