sackwort
Please see the attached screenshots. I want to cut-out this ornament leaving a transparent background. I used the selection brush along with refine selection. I thought I'd done a decent job until I copied the selection and pasted onto a white background. The edges are jagged and some of the original background, which was outside of the selection, has also been copied over. Also, if I cut the selection there are remnants of the image left behind. What am I doing wrong?
Staff MEB Posted February 20, 2018 Staff Share Posted February 20, 2018 Hi sackwort, From the screenshots it's not clear what was gone wrong - if the tools/software themselves or the process selection/refine edges performed. The image is quite clean and shouldn't cause much trouble at all. Any chance you can upload/attach the original image so we can try to reproduce/create the selection here too? sackwort
Thanks for your reply. I've attached the original and the edited version, which has much of the History saved. The original has minor edits, but it's before I started making the selection. The edited version is the one I used to make the above screenshots. original.afphoto edited.afphoto
toltec
Personally, I think you are better off not to use Refine Edges. Make the selection and put 1 or 2 pixels of feather. or not. I would prefer to use a clipping path to save all that selecting, refining and so on. Like using a scalpel compared to an axe. Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
