Please see the attached screenshots. I want to cut-out this ornament leaving a transparent background. I used the selection brush along with refine selection. I thought I'd done a decent job until I copied the selection and pasted onto a white background. The edges are jagged and some of the original background, which was outside of the selection, has also been copied over.

Also, if I cut the selection there are remnants of the image left behind.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi sackwort,

From the screenshots it's not clear what was gone wrong - if the tools/software themselves or the process selection/refine edges performed. The image is quite clean and shouldn't cause much trouble at all. Any chance you can upload/attach the original image so we can try to reproduce/create the selection here too?

Personally, I think you are better off not to use Refine Edges.

Make the selection and put 1 or 2 pixels of feather. or not.

I would prefer to use a clipping path to save all that selecting, refining and so on. Like using a scalpel compared to an axe.

Can you explain that a bit more, please?
