Hi DM1,

Ahh now I get what you want to archive, I think the im painting brush is not really meant to do that. Try something like this:

Thanks. That’s an interesting feature that I wasn't aware of. :)

If you haven't yet tried it (the inpainting macro in Paul’s Muds macros) you should give it a go. It also works a treat.

Thanks Paul. So it is necessary to rasterise the canvas to get inpainting to infill on a blank canvas. That makes sense as the pixel layer has been moved / cropped exposing the canvas.

I am intrigued how the macro inpaint is able to fill all edges. Does it inpaint the whole image layer? If not how (in 2 steps) does it fill all edges.

I assume the first step in macro is to 'rasterise'.xD

Dave

Correct :-), inpaint2crop2 by Jim Welsh macro steps are:-

1. Rasterise

2. Select partially transparent

3. Grow / shrink selection 5.4px

4. inpainting

5. deselect

Mud’s Macros

SelectionFromLayer - convert a layer into a pixel selection

SelectAllLayers - select all layers quickly

DeSelectAllLayers - de select all layers quickly

PencilPortrait - Convert Photo to pencil sketch (Credit: Alpha Sierra, YouTube)

InpaintCrop2 - fix edges after a straighten crop (Credit: Jim Welsh)

@Andy Somerfield

I miss the interactive startup tutorial, was the first thing I showed to others :(. Did it take too much memory or something?

@Paul Mudditt Paul are you able to Open in Cloud from Dropbox and have the Save update the Dropbox file?

I thought this was working fine but since updating it no longer saves in place. Dropbox updated two days ago so that may have effected something too. I posted a video on the bug thread but haven't heard back from Serif yet. Just wondering if it is my setup or more widespread.

Changes appear to be there but after saving then deleting from Project the Dropbox version has lost all edits.

I agree, edits don’t save to Dropbox.

In fairness, the setting under preferences is iCloud Drive or On My iPad so only those two options work. Until the functionality is extended to support any alternative cloud service like a Dropbox I can’t see it being possible.

Edit: It’s a Dropbox problem, I have now tested workflow successfully using other folders that I created in iCloud Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud and Box. Google drive doesn’t work either. Guess we will have to wait for updates from Dropbox and Google.

Thanks for checking Paul. I think it was working up to the last Dropbox update a couple of days ago but alas no longer working.

We in the QA team believe this to be true, some last minute change in our code or Dropbox has resulted in a possibility of losing changes. We will investigate and report back to these beta forums if there is a better workaround than “save as” over the original

I have been trying to manually 'emulate' this in AP for iPad.

1. Rasterise - Command menu Rasterise works

2. Select partially transparent - Command menu Select transparency range/Select partially transparent works

3. Grow/Shrink Selection 5.4px - Tool Grow Shrink Selection set to 5.4px works

4. Inpainting - unable to find a command to inpaint/fill all areas within selections..

5. Deselect - Command menu Deselect.

The macro must have access to a function not visible in the current command menu? Manual infill works.

Yes I posted quite some time back that Serif have used the same underlying software engine on all platforms so that some functionality that is missing from the iPad can be transferred via macros from the desktop version.

The command Inpaint  is one of them as is SelectionFromLayer, SelectAllLayersDeSelectAllLayers which I also include in my Mud’s Macros download. Although inpaint was included in the crop tool I have now added it in as a separate option if you want to try it. When you get to the point, after rasterising :-), that you want to inpaint the four corners, just run the inpaint macro which runs the single desktop command inpaint.

Mud’s Macros

SelectionFromLayer - convert a layer into a pixel selection

SelectAllLayers - select all layers quickly

DeSelectAllLayers - de select all layers quickly

PencilPortrait - Convert Photo to pencil sketch (Credit: Alpha Sierra, YouTube)

InpaintCrop2 - fix edges after a straighten crop (Credit: Jim Welsh)

Inpaint - the inpaint option from the desktop.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ywn4s3a7o5ot6cf/Mud's Macros.afmacros?dl=0

If you load it in again you might end up with 2 macro menus Mud’s Macros and Mud’s Macros 2 so you might want to delete the first version if you want to try the new version.

The Live Filters provided with the latest update is a good example of this.

I have compared the Life filters list with the Filters Studio and the macro filters are all listed in the studio. What's the difference/benefit other than not having to choose to 'make' it a live filter? Do the macro 'live' filters utilise less memory than the converted studio filters?

I thought the reason for those filters being provided as macros was that the iPad version of the app lacks the UI that the desktop versions include for the Live Filter functionality. Am I misunderstanding (or simply missing) something? :/

The only difference I noted in a quick comparison was that the iPads Studio filters provide an option to change the (standard) filter into a 'live' filter. If you choose 'live', a pop up issues a warning relating to memory usage. The macros insert a 'live' filter. No warning. Maybe they are 'different' in the sense that a naturally live filter (as in the macro version) uses less memory than a live filter 'generated' from the standard filter listed in the Studio Filters? Just guessing though.

Not near my desktop again but I will have a look at them, pretty sure they are just shortcuts to add new mask layer, add filter, make it live.

I can not open Affinity Photo, the testflight build has expired. That´s not good guys. I was working on some important documents and now i can not open them. My fault that i didn‘t save all my documents to my iCloud server. Is there any chance for a new build or and old one which i can use to prevent loosing all my data inside of Affinity Photo.

Please help Serif.

Best regards Frank

Edit:

I figured that my Affinity Photo Build 1.6.7.76 was opened. A workaround what might help you too.

1. Double click on the home button and check if Affinity Photo is still active and opened.

2. Open a document what you want to backup

3. Go to document - save copie - choose a name and click save - choose a folder in your iCloud - Done

The problem is that i can not close Affinity Photo Beta, because i don‘t know if the App Store Version of Affinity Photo is able to open the beta files, like the desktop counter part.

Please help guys at Serif. Cheers

Just download the App Store version it’s the same as the GM version but since it’s the official release will work fine.

Hi,

Am I still able to join the Beta force at this stage of development? I'd really like to help out and improve with the brush and painting side of AP.

Can some please direct me to where I can sign up?

Thanks Paul. Is there any info to when the next version will be released and what is/has been fixed?

Ive found and posted some bugs regarding the brush dynamics and was hoping these things might have been addressed? It would be nice to see the standard tools nailed before introducing new tools/features.

Assuming you posted the problems you found on the iPad bugs page, the developers are very good at picking up such issues, with some known issues with IOS12 still to be resolved I’d think an update may well be due by the autumn when IOS12 is on general release.

Hi I have read this in the change log at first post: “RAW camera support is disabled for iPads which cannot shoot RAW

what does it mean? I mean I have the new ipad 2018 and I need to edit raw images that I took from my canon eos 7D connected via cable to the iPad to copy paste the files and then edit them on the iPad. But my iPad do not shoot raw images as far as i know. Can I edit 7D raw images on my iPad 2018 anyway? Thx
