pomme27
Hi. I am trying to create some space images, something like what appears in the attached image. I can create the "star spatter" across the full image, and I can create the more solid greenish gas clouds on the left side of the image. But, moving from left to right in the image, you'll see that the gas cloud becomes bluer, lighter and wispier, ultimately fading in the black background with no clearly defined edges. This is the effect I'm having trouble with. I've tried lots of different vector and raster brushes, various colours and various opacities, but I can't seem to land on the right combination of tools/settings to create this affect. Looking for advice please. Thx.
John Rostron
Have you tried using Perlin Noise to generste the clouds? This generates random clouds, but you can repeat it until you get one you like. It would be useful to be able to seed the random number generator(s) so that we could get reproducible results. True, but that would probably not be much use to the OP, @pomme27. John Quote Windows 10, Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Designer 1.10.5 and Publisher 1.10.5 (mainly Photo), now ex-Adobe CC CPU: AMD A6-3670. Not if the OP were just doing it for their own purposes, but they might want to share how they did it (or another user might achieve a good result and want to tell the OP their secret). markw
Have you tried making randomly shaped vector objects to build the gas clouds? Lowering their opacity and/or applying large amounts of Gaussian Blur to them. The blend modes of the shapes could also be played with for more interaction between cloud shapes. pomme27
Thank you all. You've given me a good starting point. By the way, I've never heard of Perlin Noise, so I'll have to figure out where to find it / how to use it. Thanks again!
firstdefence
Perlin Noise is located at: Filters > Noise > Perlin Noise. Perlin Noise creates a kind of two tone cloud effect. pomme27
I tried to find Perlin Noise, but without success. So I'm guessing it is a tool in Affinity Photo, which I don't have. I am using Affinity Designer. But the vector transparency tool has been a big help, so I'm getting closer to my desired result!
