Making a flexible text box

Recommended Posts

I have a small side project, - a paper dice with coaching questions that I am trying to put up with different languages. A designer has made the background (dice format in A4 to cut out) so I just have to add the text and make a PDF when I have a new language.

Here's how it looks: https://minutedice.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/JHC-dice-ENG.pdf

I used to use a small piece of vector software that no longer exist and now I am trying to update the texts in Afinity Designer. But I can't figure out an easy way to make a textbook where I can adjust the different corners so the text inside adjusts along with linebreaks and so on.

Any ideas or any links to tutorials that I can learn from? I am trying to make a triangle text box.

Sorry if I'm not expressing myself so clear or if it's obvious how to do it!

Us something like this and rotate it 180 degrees.

You won't be able to use a triangle shape, draw a square and delete a node.

I uploaded a Designer file so you can see it, or use it.

Or flip the triangle, draw a larger rectangle on top of it, select both and click on the ‘Intersect’ icon in the Geometry section of the main toolbar.

Thanks firstdefence,

The triangle is brilliant! How do you do the process? (sorry for the stupid question) I'd like it to be a isosceles/rectangular triangle so it fits easier into the dice and is easier to work with.

Sorry, Alfred but I don't understand (I am a fairly newbie)

@Jesper Three ways to get an Isosceles Triangle... Once you have done that you can lock the layer and trace over it with the path tool.

One way to draw an equilateral triangle (which is what I think you want for this instead of an isosceles one) is to use the Polygon Tool: set Sides to 3 in the Context toolbar & hold down Shift as you draw it. You can also hold down the CMD key (probably the CTRL key on Windows) to draw from the center.

What he means is a point up triangle (however you create it) can't just be rotated 180° or flipped if you want the text to begin on the broad side -- try it & you should see why this won't work. So to convert it to a point down triangle, rotate it 180° but then draw a larger rectangle around it, select both shapes, & use the "Intersect" geometry step to convert the resulting shape to an unrotated triangle shape with its point at the bottom.

Une façon de dessiner un triangle équilatéral ...... "utiliser l'outil Polygone: placez à trois dans la barre d'outils Contexte ........ (probablement la touche CTRL sur Windows) pour dessiner à partir du centre.

Bonjour.

Sous Windows, utilisez la touche majuscule. (Pas la touche verr maj).

Using the Shift key gives you an equilateral triangle, but if you want to draw/create it from the centre you need to use the Ctrl key on Windows (or the Cmd key on a Mac).
