Colour picker now uses on screen modifier. The press and hold method which nearly worked seems to have gone. A shame as it just needed a little tweak to the delay before paintbrush autoswitched to colour pick mode.

Correction, seems to have gone from Apple Pencil, but still works with long finger press.

I agree Paul, the pencil press and hold was pretty close to perfect. I did find that occasionally it did not work and the long finger press would have to be used instead. Maybe that's why it was canned?

Be nice too if the on screen modifiers for brushes included a palette toggle. That way it would be easy to swap primary and secondary colour palette eg. Black and White when Masking.

On my Facebook Group Affinity for iPad Users, Linda asked

“I hope that they added the erase blend mode. In the help section it is mentioned on the list of blend modes. But it is not there.”

On checking the help section it is mentioned but doesn’t appear to be available. If it’s not planned, maybe revise the text?

Paul, the Apple pencil colour picker works for me at the moment.

I suspect there may be an intermittent issue as I found it unresponsive on several occasions in the previous build.

Vote4Appstore release. :) I found nothing really crashing. Opened several Multicomposure Tiffs around 100MB, speed is good. Nikon raw files open fast as well, no glitches. Affinity Designer file with several artboards looking good. ( symbols in an iPad app, so powerful)

tryed several live filters, still amazed by the speed. Looking forward for an Affinity Designer Beta *wink

thanks for this awesome update guys, with the new splash screen feels a bit like 2.0 :)

cheers,

Lutz

Hi Paul,

I believe Linda has already reported it to us, or it was a (coincidentally) different Linda! However this has been fixed by development and you should see Erase back in the next Release Candidate!

I know I said everything was good to go, but I seem to be having problems with perspective projection tool. I keep getting into a state that my only way out of the projection is to undo everything I’ve done. Has anyone else had any problems with this?

No problems here. Perspective layer working as expected. :)

Had an issue with the app crashing to springboard every time I used the gradient map in Develope persona, but it was restricted to the one file and hasn’t occurred in any other file I tested.

Another strange one, open any photo, then place another photo inside it. Select that photo and make a quick selection on it. Make a duplicate as you would normally do. Instead of the selection only being duplicated, the whole placed photo is duplicated as if you had never made a selection.

Having a problem too with the inpainting brush. It seems unable to fill areas following straightening the photo with the Crop tool.

Video shows results after crop straightening.

I was so surprised that duplicating a selection on a placed photo didn’t work so reverted to 1.6.5 and see same behaviour, so if it is a bug, it’s not a new one. Unless it is an IOS beta issue. The work around to create a mask layer to make a cutout still works however.

I'm getting some strange behaviour with the Patch tool. Using it to fill sky in pic above (inpainting didn’t work at all!), the selection when dragged cuts a square out and rotates it slightly. Tapping screen somewhere completes the operation and the end result is as desired. But it certainly is not meant to behave as it is.

i am not on iOS beta so the placed image selection issue is not due to iOS beta.

It seems to be something to do with brushes, I have the same inpainting issue. However, I have Jim Welsh’s inpaintcrop2 macro which automates this procedure and it works perfectly ! Need to get on my Mac and have a closer look at the steps Jim makes in the macro!

Try it from here

SelectionFromLayer - convert a layer into a pixel selection

SelectAllLayers - select all layers quickly

DeSelectAllLayers - de select all layers quickly

PencilPortrait - Convert Photo to pencil sketch (Credit: Alpha Sierra, YouTube)

InpaintCrop2 - fix edges after a straighten crop (Credit: Jim Welsh)

I think this issue dates back to the last Apple Store version, but when importing or opening a tiff (may also happen when going from RAW), saving out changes the file name case from capital initials to lower case. For example Sophia_Delicate_2_17_18 to sophia_delicate_2_17_18. I don’t run iOS betas, so that’s not the issue. Not a huge problem, but weird.

The inpaint macro works every time. :D

I tried rasterising the image after cropping but the problem still exists with manual inpainting after clip.

This is not a bug, it is just something that is not possible to do with placed 'Image' layers - you need to first rasterise the layer to turn it to a 'Pixel' layer and then you'll be able to duplicate the selected areas. For example you cannot use brush strokes on these layers either - instead the software will convert the layer to a pixel layer (if using an assistant) or just not paint. This is the same behaviour as the desktop.

Thanks for that - I've reproduced that here and will get it passed on to development. It is also reproducible on the desktop app as well.

Sean, the macro that Paul provided (inpaint crop2), allows the inpainting to complete correctly. Perhaps it can offer some insight into the cause of the problem? :/

Sean is there any way for AP to recognise actions that cannot be completed due to the need to 'rasterise' and do it automatically? It sure is a trap for us beginnersxD.

At a guess I think he might be using the Edit > Inpaint option on the Desktop release which works as you would expect. However I'm not entirely sure this option is not accessible outside of a Macro on the iPad. I'll take a look and pass it on to development to add it if so!
