Cam
I came across in both AD and AP beta's the eyedropper tool is sampling the incorrect colour, it seems to have sneaked back into the beta's :( It's only a very slight shift this time around. Sample one objects colour and then apply it to another object, switch Wheel to Sliders in the Colour panel and select RGB Hex from the dropdown. Select each object individually and notice the Hex # and RGB sliders change in value. In AD beta - 1.1.2.22824 and AP beta - 1.1.2.22821. Staff MattP Posted February 17, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 17, 2015 Hi Cam, I think this might just be something to do with a specific colour perhaps? I'm not seeing it on my tests... Is there a certain colour you could tell me which samples incorrectly for you? Thanks! Matt
Cam
Hi Matt, I took a screen recording of the issue I'm experiecing with the eyedropper tool, notice the Hex and RGB values slightly change after pasting the sampled colour. As to your point Matt, it doesn't always sample the incorrect colour, however, in my experience it samples incorrectly 90% of the time. I also tested this on the AD Mac App store version and the eyedropper tool seems to behave the same way as the betas. Staff MattP Posted February 17, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks for that - it's happening a lot for you! :( I'll try to look into this asap :)
Arctic Gorilla
I've seen this too, not often enough to become annoying but i'd say it's a regularly happening. I'll make a note of the frequency from now on and see if its happening with any particular colour. Cam
Great, thanks Matt! I just came across this after some additional testing. If I sample a colour that was previously sampled from another colour, it will always sample the correct colour. Hopefully this helps you as you sort out what might be going on. Markus Dierolf
Is this specific to RGB? If I try it for the CMYK sliders I got always the correct values. camloken
Could you please add a shortcut key for the eyedropper? I tend to use shortcuts a lot in illustrator and it's really annoying to not have a shortcut key for the eyedropper. I actually had to dig around the Affinity UI before I actually found the eyedropper tool. Don't get me wrong, I love what you guys have done so far, but really how much effort would it be to add a shortcut (you could make the shortcut command is visible when users hover over the tool too). Staff MEB Posted March 6, 2015 Staff Share Posted March 6, 2015 Hi camloken, Currently, you can quickly access the Eyedropper pressing down alt and dragging on the canvas. This works for most paint/edit tools. Gear maker 1 A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
camloken
Ok thanks. I did not know that. Perhaps you should show the shortcut when you hover over the eyedropper tool. However, that being said I would like to select an object and quickly alt+click another object to transfer the colour. The current selected object does not allow me easily sample a colour into it. I must click and drag the eyedropper, then select the object I want to transfer the colour to, then click the (not so obvious) swatch beside the eyedropper. That's a lot of mouse clicking and moving around. Would it not be easier to select the object, then alt+click a secondary object to transfer the colour? Again, please don't take offence, I'm merely suggesting this as an advanced feature, but for users like myself every click and mouse move can add a lot of time to a workflow over time. I think this would be reasonably easy to implement, no? If you really wanted something useful, you could do a live colour update of the selected object as users alt+dragged. No that would be pretty cool.

No that would be pretty cool. We actually had it doing exactly that early in development - and the rate at which it changed colours was so insane that it made all kinds of weird flashing effects on the screen - it was a bit crazy so we turned it off! :S
camloken
LOL, just a quick way to transfer colours would be nice then. No need to turn it into a disco. MattP and Gear maker
